Job summary

Formlabs is seeking an Manufacturing Engineering Intern to own independent internship projects within the manufacturing team in Somerville, MA. You’ll support end-to-end test and calibration equipment development, manage manufacturing builds, and help co-develop methods and processes for next-gen products.

This onsite internship runs January–April/June 2027, full-time, with a portfolio of engineering work required for application. Local candidates preferred.

Qualifications

• CAD proficiency with Onshape, Solidworks, Fusion, and 2D drawing creation.
• Debugging and troubleshooting electromechanical systems.
• Hands-on hardware experience and self-motivation.
• Strong communication, organization, and attention to detail.
• Experience with SQL, Tableau, JMP, Minitab or equivalent data viz tools.
• Experience with Python.

Responsibilities

• Project manage manufacturing builds, both in-house and at overseas vendors, and own technical troubleshooting of manufacturing line issues.

The Job:

• Support end-to-end test and calibration equipment development including fixture design, fabrication, qualification, inventory / asset management, and preventive maintenance plans.
• Project manage manufacturing builds, both in-house and at overseas vendors, and own technical troubleshooting of manufacturing line issues
• Co-develop methods, processes, procedures, and work instructions to support building our next generation products.

You:

• Have working proficiency with CAD (e.g. Onshape, Solidworks, Fusion etc.) and 2D drawing creation
• Skilled at debugging, testing, and identifying the root causes of electromechanical problems
• Hands-on, self-motivated, and love to work on hardware
• Organized, meticulous, and detail-oriented
• Independent, self-starter with strong communication skills
• Experience with statistical analysis and data visualization tools (SQL, Tableau, JMP, Minitab, etc)
• Experience with Python

Nice to Have:

• Have a desire to understand system level interactions of complex electro-mechanical products.
• Understanding of GD&T principles to define and evaluate part quality

Compensation

Interns at Formlabs are paid on a bi-weekly pay schedule. The pay range for this role will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, location and expected impact on the organization. This is a salaried role, so you will always be paid based on the assumed 40 hours per week as a full-time intern. This position does not offer housing or relocation assistance.

The bi-weekly pay range for this role is:

$1,575 — $1,950 USD
