Magna Powertrain in Indiana seeks an automotive manufacturing engineer to prepare plans and reports, support CNC programs, and contribute to lean initiatives across a three-shift facility.

The role requires an associate degree in engineering and 2–5 years of manufacturing experience, with strong communication and CAD skills. You will engage with suppliers, vendors, and plant staff to drive continuous improvement and quality.

Qualifications

  • Associate's degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, or related technical discipline.
  • 2-5 years of experience in a manufacturing environment, preferably automotive Tier 1 or Tier 2.
  • Basic understanding of CNC programming and manufacturing automation.
  • Knowledge of quality standards (QS-9000, IATF 16949, ISO).
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and CAD software (AutoCAD) for sketches and drawings.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Interface with staff, vendors, customers, and plant employees.
  • Experience supporting plant startups and high-volume manufacturing is a plus.
  • Familiarity with Lean Manufacturing and APQP.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare routine engineering assignments, simple plans, designs, calculations, and reports.
  • Conduct basic technical surveys and inspections, and document findings.
  • Support process documentation including control plans and PFMEAs; update models as needed.
  • Assist Supplier Quality and Manufacturing during production of new products.
  • Collaborate with management, engineering, maintenance, and production for a three-shift facility.
  • Apply basic statistical methods to evaluate machinery and process capability.
  • Use problem-solving techniques (8‑Step, DOE, mistake-proofing) to identify issues and drive corrective actions.
  • Support CNC program edits and troubleshoot basic programming issues.
  • Assist production with quality concerns by identifying root causes and action plans.
  • Participate in plant layout planning, machinery placement, and material handling strategies.
  • Support training activities and pursue skill development.
  • Assist Engineering in tool trials, capability studies, and documentation.
  • Develop and maintain Manufacturing Engineering Standards and documentation processes.
  • Support APQP activities, line balancing, and production documentation.
  • Assist in creating safety and ergonomics documentation.
  • Develop reports on scrap and KMIs; present weekly updates to management.
  • Ensure control and archiving of engineering documents, CAD drawings, and part numbering.
  • Support Lean Manufacturing, MAFACT, and cost-saving projects.
  • Conduct LPAs weekly and monthly; participate in Lessons Learned and Benchmarking.
  • Support monthly operational review reporting and IATF audits.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
