CBC is seeking a hands-on Manufacturing Engineer for a night-shift role in the Richmond, VA area. This on-site position focuses on production-floor problem solving, equipment and process improvement, and project execution in a high-mix environment.

You will work with operators, maintenance, quality, safety, and leadership to improve reliability, throughput, and day-to-day performance, including leading root-cause analysis and capital projects.

Qualifications

• 3–7 years of manufacturing or production engineering experience.
• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering.
• Strong mechanical, automation, and equipment knowledge.
• Experience planning/executing equipment or capital projects.
• Hands-on troubleshooting and problem-solving mindset.
• CAD skills for fixtures or layouts (SolidWorks/AutoCAD).

Responsibilities

• Observe processes on the factory floor to identify improvements.
• Lead root-cause troubleshooting for mechanical, electrical, and automation issues.
• Manage capital and expense projects from concept to handoff.
• Develop tooling, fixtures, and production-system improvements.
• Establish SOPs and best practices for equipment.
• Coordinate with night-shift personnel and other functions across shifts.

Job description

CBC is recruiting a hands-on Manufacturing Engineer for a night-shift opportunity with an established manufacturer in the Richmond, Virginia area.

This on-site role is centered on production-floor problem solving, equipment and process improvement, and project execution in a custom, high-mix manufacturing environment. The Manufacturing Engineer will work closely with operators, maintenance, quality, safety, and production leadership to improve equipment reliability, throughput, and day-to-day operating performance.

Key Responsibilities

• Spend significant time on the manufacturing floor observing processes, working with operators, and identifying practical equipment and process improvements.
• Lead root-cause troubleshooting for mechanical, electrical, automation, and production issues.
• Manage expense and capital projects from concept through justification, scheduling, installation, training, startup, and final handoff.
• Develop tooling, fixtures, layouts, and production-system improvements.
• Establish and improve SOPs, work instructions, and equipment best practices.
• Use operating data and direct observation to improve machine reliability, process capability, efficiency, and throughput.
• Work closely with night-shift production personnel while coordinating effectively with engineering and support functions across shifts.

Schedule

• Night-shift start time is typically between 1:30 PM and 2:30 PM.
• At least 40 hours per week, generally eight working hours per day plus a 30-60 minute lunch break.
• No regular weekend work is expected. Rare weekend or off-hours support may be needed for critical equipment issues, installations, or other business-critical events.
• Periodic schedule flexibility may be required to support training, equipment, or processes across multiple shifts.

Compensation

• $90,000-$110,000 base salary, based on experience.
• Guaranteed $10,000 annual night-shift incentive, paid throughout the year while assigned to night shift.
• Annual bonus opportunity at company discretion.

Requirements

• Approximately 3-7 years of manufacturing or production engineering experience, preferably in a custom or high-mix manufacturing environment.
• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a closely related field preferred. Equivalent relevant experience may be considered.
• Strong understanding of mechanical systems, automation, and industrial equipment.
• Demonstrated experience planning and executing equipment, process-improvement, or capital projects.
• Strong hands-on troubleshooting and structured problem-solving capability.
• Ability to work effectively with operators, maintenance teams, production leadership, and support functions.
• CAD capability using SolidWorks, AutoCAD, or similar tools for fixtures, layouts, or equipment-related design.
• Strong ownership, initiative, adaptability, and practical problem-solving skills.

Preferred

• Experience with TPM, predictive maintenance, reliability-centered maintenance, or similar equipment-reliability practices.
