Qualifications

• 3–7 years in manufacturing or production engineering.
• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering preferred.

• Hands-on troubleshooting and structured problem-solving skills.

• CAD capability using SolidWorks or AutoCAD.

Job description

CBC is recruiting a hands-on Manufacturing Engineer for an established manufacturer in the Richmond, Virginia area.

This on-site role is centered on production-floor problem solving, equipment and process improvement, and project execution in a custom, high-mix manufacturing environment. The Manufacturing Engineer will work closely with operators, maintenance, quality, safety, and production leadership to improve equipment reliability, throughput, and day-to-day operating performance.

Key Responsibilities

• Spend significant time on the manufacturing floor observing processes, working with operators, and identifying practical equipment and process improvements.
• Lead root-cause troubleshooting for mechanical, electrical, automation, and production issues using structured problem-solving methods.
• Manage expense and capital projects from concept through justification, scheduling, installation, training, startup, and final handoff.
• Develop tooling, fixtures, layouts, and production-system improvements using hands‑on design and fabrication skills.
• Establish and improve SOPs, work instructions, and equipment best practices, then train production and maintenance personnel.
• Use operating data and direct observation to improve machine reliability, process capability, efficiency, and throughput.
• Manage multiple projects and priorities while communicating effectively with stakeholders at all levels.

Schedule

• Day shift with a typical start time between 7:00 AM and 8:30 AM. Most team members begin between approximately 7:45 AM and 8:15 AM.
• At least 40 hours per week, generally eight working hours per day plus a 30-60 minute lunch break.
• No regular weekend work is expected. Rare weekend or off-hours support may be needed for critical equipment issues, installations, or other business-critical events.

Compensation

• $90,000-$110,000 base salary, based on experience.
• Annual bonus opportunity at company discretion.

Requirements

• Approximately 3-7 years of manufacturing or production engineering experience, preferably in a custom or high-mix manufacturing environment.
• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a closely related field preferred. Equivalent relevant experience may be considered.
• Strong understanding of mechanical systems, automation, and industrial equipment.
• Demonstrated experience planning and executing equipment, process-improvement, or capital projects.
• Strong hands‑on troubleshooting and structured problem‑solving capability.
• Ability to work effectively with operators, maintenance teams, production leadership, and support functions.
• CAD capability using SolidWorks, AutoCAD, or similar tools for fixtures, layouts, or equipment‑related design.
• Strong ownership, initiative, adaptability, and practical problem‑solving skills.

Preferred:

• Experience with TPM, predictive maintenance, reliability‑centered maintenance, or similar equipment‑reliability practices.
