Manufacturing Engineer III – Direct Hire

System One is actively seeking a Manufacturing Engineer III for a direct hire opportunity with our client in Chattanooga, TN. This role requires a highly skilled and mechanically inclined individual with a strong background in manufacturing, design, and project management. The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing complex manufacturing projects from conception to shipment, including planning, documentation, design, and hands-on support.
Responsibilities:
- Manage the technical aspects of complex manufacturing projects from receipt of customer PO to final shipment
- Determine material, fabrication, inspection, and testing requirements from customer POs, specifications, and applicable standards (e.g., NQA-1, ASTM, ASME, API)
- Occasionally design weldments and assemblies to applicable codes (e.g., ASME BPVC Section VIII)
- Collaborate with engineering teams at subcontractors regarding design, manufacturing, testing, and quality compliance
- Create Nuclear Commercial Grade Dedication Plans and Technical Evaluations
- Interface with production planning to determine optimal manufacturing and machining processes
- Generate BOMs, manufacturing instructions (routers), weld maps, inspection/test reports, and other production documentation
- Develop and execute test plans (e.g., pressure, load, electrical); perform tests and document results
- Provide purchasing requirements to the procurement team based on project specifications
- Select and manage vendors for outsourced fabrication and processing
- Provide regular technical guidance to production personnel and collaborate on welding/assembly issues
- Communicate directly with customer engineering groups to resolve technical issues and provide status updates
- Create CAD models and manufacturing drawings, including fixture design, to support project execution
- Adapt to additional duties and responsibilities as business needs evolve
Required Education & Experience:
- Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering (or related discipline)
- Minimum 4 years of experience in manufacturing or mechanical design
- Hands-on experience in manufacturing processes such as machining, welding, forming, and assembly
- Experience interpreting technical specifications and codes (e.g., ASME BPVC, B31.3, AWS D1.6, ASTM)
- Strong understanding of GD&T, AWS weld symbols, and manufacturing drawings
- Experience with CAD software (SolidWorks preferred; AutoCAD, Creo, etc. also acceptable)
Preferred Qualifications:
- Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills
- Proven work ethic with attention to detail and high levels of organization
- Familiarity with ERP systems (SAP, Global Shop, Mapics, etc.)
- Experience managing projects with nuclear or government standards (10CFR50 App B, NQA-1, MIL, DOE, NavSea)
- Knowledge of Nuclear Commercial Grade Dedication processes
- Experience with design and inspection of pressure vessels, weldments, and machined components
- Familiarity with manufacturing test methods and quality assurance protocols
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Hands-on experience with mechanical maintenance or repair work is a plus
