Description

SUMMARY

The Manufacturing Cost Engineer is responsible for understanding the process of manufacturing a particular product, then collecting and analyzing data to estimate the cost of manufacturing that product.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Research and understand how parts are manufactured and the costs associated with each part of the manufacturing process, including raw materials, labor, equipment, tooling and other associated costs.
  • Work with finance to develop and maintain current material and labor cost rates.
  • Complete cost analysis for new products, components and assemblies.
  • Work with engineering, production and sales to cost existing weldments, assemblies and kits.
  • Create and maintain costing records and report cost/price analysis.
  • Maintain familiarity and working knowledge of bill of materials and routings.
  • Audit and update existing costings, on manufactured parts, weldments and assembly.
  • Perform variance analysis between actual and predicted costs.
  • Conduct cost system reviews and margin and productivity improvement studies. Provide data to management and engineering to help manage the cost impact of engineering changes.
  • Analyze cost variances and recommend corrective actions to improve those variances.

Qualifications

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Bachelor’s degree in engineering, accounting or Finance or comparable related business experience in a manufacturing industry preferred.

Ability to read, write and comprehend documents and correspondence. Ability to effectively present information to internal and external individuals and groups. Ability to provide informative and professional assistance when working with the public/customers and co-workers and maintain positive interpersonal relationships.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals.

COMPUTER SKILLS

Microsoft Office including, but not limited to Word, Excel and Outlook.

Working knowledge of SolidWorks or ability and desire to learn.

ADDITIONAL SKILLS

Ability to talk with many different types of people and challenge engrained thinking. Inquisitive, fast learner, strong personality and exhibits pride of ownership in their work. Familiarity with equipment and processes for the manufacturing of parts, including welding, paint, assembly and machine shop equipment including lathes, machining centers, benders and other operations.
