Job summary

James Hardie is seeking a Cost Accountant I to support the Prattville plant's profitability through detailed cost analysis and budgeting. The role covers month-end close, cycle counts, and ensuring SOX controls and accurate books for management review.

The ideal candidate has an accounting or finance degree, 1+ year in finance, manufacturing exposure, and analytical skills to translate data into actionable insights for continuous improvement.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance required.
• Minimum of one year experience in an accounting or finance role required.
• Manufacturing experience preferred.
• CPA/CMA certification (or in process) a plus.
• Ability to synthesize complex data into actionable insights.
• Strong problem-solving and judgement demonstrated.

Responsibilities

• Examine production costs, gain/loss, and month-end closing data.
• Independently collect and analyze operational data.
• Complete monthly cost analysis of controllable expense accounts and material cost variance accounts.
• Support in the weekly forecast submissions, provide trends and recommendations.
• Explain and reconcile manufacturing variances for the plant.
• Prepare month-end close activities including journal entries and reconciliations.
• Coordinate data for decision-making with senior Cost Accountants or Controller.
• Assist in building and managing the annual plant budget.
