Job summary

AbbVie in North Chicago, IL is seeking an Engineer Technician I to support manufacturing equipment and control systems. The role focuses on maintaining and improving facility, equipment, and process controls, with emphasis on troubleshooting PLCs, HMIs, vision systems, and related equipment to minimize downtime.

You will work under supervision, perform system maintenance, document procedures, and assist in project start-ups.

Qualifications

• Minimum 5 years of technical experience in manufacturing or automation.
• High School/GED required; technical training preferred.
• Proficiency with PLC-based control systems (Allen‑Bradley/Rockwell) or Siemens.
• Experience with vision systems (Cognex or Keyence).
• Familiarity with PC hardware, Windows, Ignition, and industrial networking.
• Ability to read electrical schematics and technical docs.
• Knowledge of regulatory requirements for manufacturing environments.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical service with daily monitoring and troubleshooting of systems.
• Troubleshoot automated equipment, PLCs, HMIs, sensors, and vision systems.
• Suggest design or process improvements to reduce downtime.
• Maintain documentation, logs, BOPs, and training materials.
• Support start-up and commissioning of new facilities/equipment.
• Collaborate with project teams and management to implement solutions.
