Job summary

AbbVie in Chicago, IL seeks an Engineer Technician I to provide technical support for industrial automation and controls, focusing on minimizing downtime and maximizing efficiency across facility, equipment, and utilities.

You will troubleshoot PLCs, HMIs, vision systems, and related equipment, document procedures, and participate in commissioning and startup of new systems. Requires strong reliability and regulatory awareness.

Qualifications

• Requires at least 5 years of technical experience in the area of automation and controls.
• Basic knowledge of PLC-based control systems (Allen-Bradley or Siemens).
• Familiarity with Cognex or Keyence vision systems.
• Understanding of PC hardware, Windows, Ignition, and industrial networks.
• Ability to read electrical schematics and technical documentation to troubleshoot equipment.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical service, monitor and troubleshoot assigned systems to minimize downtime.
• Assist engineers with design, start-up, and commissioning of automation projects.
• Maintain documentation, logs and BOPs for regulatory compliance.
• Collaborate with production, engineering and external vendors to resolve issues.
• Identify issues and implement troubleshooting techniques for plant downtime avoidance.
