Job Summary

HMH has an opening for a Manual Machinist in Houston, TX. The position requires skills developed through formal training or work experience, high attention to detail and safety. The machinist works within established procedures and guidelines with limited ability to modify approach, completing tasks with moderate supervision. Candidates may be asked to demonstrate key manual operating skills and knowledge, including use of measuring equipment and reading blueprints.

Job Responsibilities
  • Perform operations including turning, facing, boring, drilling, reaming, threading, grooving, and other lathe/mill work as required.
  • Work with small/large diameter or long-length material (steady rest/follow rest) and tight tolerances.
  • Be competent in ID and OD threading and grooving.
  • Maintain safety, environmental, and quality standards while supporting a production schedule.
  • Execute daily priorities and duties as defined by the supervisor or area lead.
  • Use and maintain measuring equipment (micrometers, calipers, indicators, bore gauges, height gauges).
  • Conduct in-process and final inspections; document results and report nonconformities.
  • Inspect and ensure dimensions are within print specifications and report any non-conformities.
  • Regularly lift, push, pull or move up to 30 lbs (and occasionally up to 50 lbs).
  • Apply basic written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Apply basic math and basic PC skills.
  • Read and comprehend instructions, work orders and drawings.
  • Work independently and in a team environment.
  • Maintain consistent attendance and punctuality.
  • Safely operate shop equipment such as overhead crane or forklift where applicable (or obtain certification).
  • Maintain a safe, clean and organized working environment.
  • Demonstrate commitment to HMH values, compliance, integrity and HSSE.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 3+ years as a manual machinist.
Desired Characteristics
  • 5+ years as a manual machinist.
  • Advanced knowledge of cutting tools, processes, hand tools and measuring equipment.
  • Experience with other manual machines (manual HBM mill, drill press, surface grinder, keyseater, etc.).
  • Working knowledge of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T).
  • Ability to set up and run with little to no supervision.
  • Demonstrated ability to read engineering drawings and specifications.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong work ethic and adherence to processes and policies.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Additional Information
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States on a full‑time basis without employer sponsorship.
  • No relocation assistance.
  • Work hours: 6:00AM – 2:30PM Monday through Friday (with overtime up to 4:30PM); some weekends 6:00AM – 12:00PM.
  • Semi‑climate‑controlled machine shop located in Houston, TX – Moisilee.
