Job summary

Exponent, a premier engineering and scientific consulting firm, seeks a Manager/Managing Engineer with expertise in Mechanical Plant Systems Design, EPC services, maintenance and commissioning, plus combustion equipment for our Thermal Sciences Practice. Positions are available in Warrenville, IL; Chicago, IL; Houston, TX; or Atlanta, GA.

You will lead in‑plant equipment design, safety analysis, and complex project delivery across industries including power, oil & gas, LNG, and chemical sectors.

Qualifications

• Ph.D./M.S./M.Eng in Chemical, Petroleum, or Mechanical Engineering with combustion, heat transfer and fluid mechanics knowledge.
• US work authorization; no immigration sponsorship required.
• At least 5 years in plant engineering design, commissioning, maintenance and related areas.
• At least 1 year client-facing technical consulting experience.
• Professional Engineer license preferred.

Responsibilities

• Conduct failure and root‑cause analyses.
• Lead multidisciplinary teams and collaborate across disciplines.
• Identify and pursue business development opportunities.
• Manage projects and build client relationships.
• Perform engineering calculations and analyses.
• Plan and execute testing programs.
• Prepare reports, proposals and presentations.
• Travel domestically and internationally as needed.
• Translate technical conclusions for engineering, legal, business audiences.
