Job summary

Exponent in Los Angeles, CA is seeking a Manager/Managing Engineer with expertise in Chemical Process Safety and Process Hazard/Root Cause Analyses for our Thermal Sciences Practice. You will lead investigations, perform risk assessments, and evaluate mechanical integrity of fixed equipment.

The ideal candidate holds MS or PhD in chemical, petroleum or mechanical engineering, PE license preferred, 5+ years of industry experience, and strong communication skills.

Qualifications

• MS or PhD in Chemical, Petroleum or Mechanical Engineering with practical and theoretical understanding of combustion, heat transfer and fluid mechanics.
• Professional Engineering license preferred.
• Minimum 5 years of relevant industry experience in process safety, risk assessment, and evaluating mechanical integrity per API 510/570/571/579, preferably in the petrochemical industry.
• Process simulation experience using HYSYS, Chemcad or SimuLis.
• Extensive understanding of API, ASME, and ASTM standards and OSHA regulations/requirements.
• Familiarity with Process Critical documents and equipment (e.g. PFDs, P&IDs; columns, HEs, reactors).
• Excellent written and verbal communications skills; ability to convey technical conclusions to engineers, legal professionals, business and industry.
• Domestic and international travel will likely be required.
