Job summary

American Institutes for Research (AIR) is seeking a Managing Director to grow AIR’s Assessment & Human Capital work by setting strategy and leading AI-enabled assessment and workforce initiatives across K-12 and workforce settings. The role directs large-scale projects, builds partnerships with federal and state agencies, and leads talent development while advancing responsible AI and measurement rigor.

Qualifications

• Minimum 15 years of experience and a Ph.D. in education, psychology, psychometrics, measurement and evaluation, statistics, public policy, industrial/organizational psychology, workforce development, social science, data science, or a related field with substantial senior-level experience.
• Demonstrated experience leading a collection of complex projects with strategy, finances, staff, and delivery responsibility.
• Significant leadership experience in education and workforce assessments, measurement research, AI/data science, or related field.

Responsibilities

• Set strategic direction to oversee growth, impact, and performance across AIR’s work.
• Advance AI-enabled assessment, measurement innovation, and responsible AI standards.
• Build opportunities and market presence; lead business development and capture efforts across federal, state, philanthropic, and commercial markets.
• Develop people, foster collaboration, and ensure delivery excellence across AIR.
• Strengthen client relationships and thought leadership through partnerships and external engagements.
