Job summary

American Institutes for Research is seeking a Managing Director to steer the AI-enabled Assessment & Human Capital work across large-scale K-12 and workforce initiatives. This role focuses on setting strategy, building business, and developing talent while driving rigorous research, technical assistance, and measurement initiatives.

The position offers remote work within the United States and opportunities to lead multidisciplinary teams, foster partnerships, and advance AIR as a national leader

Qualifications

• Minimum 15 years of experience and a Ph.D. or equivalent in a related field with substantial senior leadership experience.
• Experience leading multiple complex projects with strategy, finances, staff, and delivery.
• Strong knowledge of assessment, measurement, and AI/data science as applied to education/workforce.

Responsibilities

• Set strategic direction to grow AIR's Assessment & Human Capital work and oversee performance.
• Lead AI-enabled assessment, measurement innovation, and responsible AI initiatives.
• Drive business development and market growth across federal, state, philanthropic, and commercial sectors.
• Recruit, develop, and retain senior researchers, leaders, and staff; mentor teams across AIR.
• Foster cross-organizational collaboration across psychometrics, data science, education, and workforce domains.
• Represent AIR externally through client engagements, conferences, and thought-leadership activities.
