Job summary

CARFAX, Inc. in Columbia, MO is seeking a Manager – Software Engineering to guide the Product Engineering Team in delivering scalable, high‑quality software.

You will lead Agile practices, coach engineers, and collaborate with product, UX and operations to align with business goals. The role requires 4 days per week in the Columbia office and a passion for innovative, customer‑focused solutions.

Qualifications

• 2+ years leading software engineering teams with Agile.
• Technical leader with programming and architectural proficiency.
• Background in building scalable enterprise software.
• Practical knowledge of cloud platforms and software architecture patterns.
• Proven cross-functional delivery.
• Strong communication with engineers and non-technical stakeholders.

• Degree in Computer Science or equivalent.

As a Manager – Software Engineering, you will be part of the Product Engineering Team – the group that is responsible for focusing on how we use our products, services, content and data to better support our consumers and business partners. A typical day will have you:

Required Experience:

• 2+ years of experience leading software engineering teams using Agile methodology.
• Experience as a technical leader, with programming and architectural proficiency, and a track record of successfully delivering complex solutions.
• Background in building/designing scalable enterprise software.
• Practical knowledge of cloud platforms, software design patterns & architecture, operations, and software engineering.
• Proven track record of cross-functional project delivery.
• Strong communication skills (verbal and written) with the ability to move seamlessly between conversing with engineers and leading presentations with non-technical stakeholders.
• Strong interpersonal skills and ability to navigate through a complex and matrixed internal environment.
• Experience with Product and Production support.
• Strong team player.
• Degree in Computer Science or equivalent work experience.

Preferred Experience:

• Experience with microservices architecture.
• Experience with architecture to support SEO and Site Speed.
• Built large-scale, common applications or services that enrich multiple products.
• Supported applications in multiple markets and time zones and languages (e.g. Canada).
• Experience with software development using AI Coding Toolsets (such as Co-Pilot, Claude Code) and AI SDLC Frameworks (such as AIDLC).
