About the Opportunity

As Payroll Operations Manager I, you will lead cross-functional teams supporting the end-to-end payroll process for large enterprise clients across North America. You will be accountable for delivering accurate, compliant, and timely payroll services while fostering operational excellence and a culture of continuous improvement.

This role requires expertise in U.S. and Canadian payroll, workforce management, and customer service, as well as proven experience managing teams and complex operations. The ideal candidate brings a solutions-oriented mindset, attention to detail, and strong interpersonal skills.

What You’ll Get to Do

  • Provide leadership and direction to a team of Payroll Specialists to ensure efficient day-to-day operations.
  • Manage the full payroll cycle, including balancing, audits, reconciliations, and reporting across US and/or CA payrolls.
  • Act as the subject matter expert on payroll processes and compliance, including tax filings, garnishments, ROEs, and year-end activities.
  • Collaborate globally with onshore and offshore teams to ensure service delivery excellence.
  • Ensure SLA and contract compliance; maintain quality control metrics and low error rates.
  • Foster a high-performing culture through coaching, regular 1:1 performance meetings, and development planning.
  • Coordinate client lifecycle engagement and lead governance meetings with key enterprise clients.
  • Ensure readiness for compliance audits, internal controls, and documentation standards.
  • Lead or support cross-functional initiatives and middleware projects as needed.
  • Proactively identify and implement process improvements with measurable outcomes.
  • Schedule team resources, manage staffing levels, and promote engagement.
  • Share organizational goals, promote positive change, and lead through ambiguity.
  • Collaborate with internal partners (HR, IT, Legal, etc.) to drive seamless service delivery.

Skills and experience we value

  • 1–3+ years of experience leading payroll teams in high-volume environments.
  • 1–3 years of experience in end-to-end payroll for US and/or Canada.
  • Deep understanding of payroll compliance requirements: tax, legislation, quarter/year-end, ROE, etc.
  • Strong customer service orientation and experience communicating with high-profile clients.
  • Bachelor's degree preferred or equivalent practical experience.
  • Certifications in payroll (e.g., FPC, PCP, CPM) are an asset.
  • Previous experience in an outsourcing or consulting environment is strongly preferred.
  • Excellent communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills.
  • Able to manage multiple priorities and deliver in a fast-paced, evolving environment.
  • Highly adaptable, with a continuous improvement mindset.
