Job summary

Guilford Technical Community College (GTCC) is seeking an IT Systems Manager to lead the delivery of college IT systems and infrastructure. You will supervise system administrators, drive enterprise IT strategy, and coordinate design, deployment and security across on‑prem and cloud environments.

You will oversee backups, ERP data integrity and disaster recovery while guiding technical governance, budgeting and cross‑functional collaboration with campus stakeholders.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in information technology from an accredited college/university.
  • Master’s degree in information technology preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Lead provisioning, installation, configuration, operation and maintenance of GTCC IT systems.
  • Oversee security, backups and ERP data integrity across on‑prem and cloud environments.
  • Coordinate with ITS Security on network and system governance and risk controls.

The IT Systems Manager is responsible for the delivery of collegeIT systems and related infrastructure and the SystemAdministrators, reporting directly to the Associate Vice Presidentof IT. As a key member of the IT leadership team, this rolecontributes to the development and execution of the enterprise-wideIT strategy and is responsible for ensuring systems infrastructurestrategy is fully aligned. This position will provide leadership inthe visioning, development and implementation of the ITSinfrastructure supporting all college IT needs, this includes allon primis and external (i.e. cloud) environments. This positionwill work closely with the Manager ITS Security to insure that thenetwork infrastructure supports the college needs both immediateand in the future.
The position will supervise all System Administrator I’s and SystemAdministrator II’s. S/he develops the daily work assignments forthe systems administrators, providing technical guidance in design,engineering and problem solving. In addition, this position will beresponsible for completing the EPA’s for each of the aforementionedpositions. In this role, the position will function as a SubjectMatter Expert ( SME ) for the department, coordinating efforts toresolve issues and to provide direction for completion of new andexisting projects, reporting and communication of the other teammembers. S/He will lead efforts for effective provisioning,installation/configuration, operation, and maintenance of the GTCCsystems hardware, software and related infrastructure. S/He willevaluate and maintain servers and systems to ensure their propersecurity, operation and availability. S/he reviews current systemsperformance indicators to assist in the management of ITS projects,tasks and staff to maximize resource use and minimize businessrisk. S/he also researches and provides recommendations ontechnology requirements for the college. These activities includetechnical strategy, research & development and maintenancewithin the documented project life cycle.
This role will monitor systems for proper operation, systemmaintenance and security-breaches. S/He will follow establishedprocesses to standardize overall server management; ensuringequipment for system patches and maintenance of software/firmwarein addition to assisting the Associate Vice President of IT indeveloping departmental policies and procedures. S/He will ensuresuccessful backups of both files and ERP data and restore data asnecessary. This position works closely with department managersthroughout the college to analyze technology requirements, documentspecifications, and provide technical solutions.

Min Salary

$87,149.16

Mid Salary

We offer a competitive salary package that will be determined basedon the candidate's experience level and qualifications related tothe job. Compensation will be commensurate with your level ofexperience.

  • Bachelor’s degree in information technology (computer science,computer information systems, programming or other related field)from an institutionally accredited college/university
Education Preferred
  • Master’s degree in information technology (computer science,computer information systems, programming or other related field)from an institutionally accredited college/university
Certifications
  • Microsoft Azure Fundamentals, with Azure AdministratorAssociate preferred
  • AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner, with AWS Certified SolutionsArchitect Professional preferred
  • VMware Certified Professional preferred
  • CompTIA A+, Network+, Security+, Linux+ preferred
  • ITIL 4 Foundation preferred
  • Or other current industry certifications not listed above
Experience Required
  • Three years of experience as a Systems Administrator
  • Seven years of work experience in IT field
  • Three years of experience in administering a virtualenvironment
  • Experienced in leading cloud adoption (at scale), includingestablishing governance mechanisms, delivering migration projectsand modifying target operating model
  • Experience in managing large multi-site network topologiesusing best practices for management of bandwidth and security.
Experience Preferred
  • Experience with Ellucian Colleague ERP system administrationstrongly preferred
  • Experience with Ellucian products, WebAdvisor, Student SelfService, E-Commerce, Colleague Portal, UniData, and ColleagueStudio.
  • Windows server OS, Mac OS, Linux OS
KSA Required
  • Demonstrated knowledge in network concepts and communicationprotocols
  • Demonstrated ability to manage budgets and procure systems
  • Demonstrated ability to build and lead teams
  • Ability to build consensus, making decisions based on manyvariables, and gain support for major initiatives.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, includingthe ability to explain technical concepts and technologies tobusiness leaders, and business concepts to the I&Oworkforce
  • Demonstrated knowledge of storage technologies
  • Demonstrated knowledge in administrating multipleplatforms
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Unix, Cloud OS, VMWare ESXi, andWindows Server Administration including DHCP, DNS, SMTP, ActiveDirectory, vCenter, Horizon View, VDI and Solaris
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and associated budgets
  • Ability to analyze problems, identify alternative solutions,project consequences of proposed actions and implementrecommendations in support of goals.
  • Strong organization and problem solving skills
KSA Preferred
  • Knowledge of cloud architecture, implementation andmigration
  • Demonstrated knowledge of data center operations
  • Demonstrated knowledge of infrastructure architecture ( TOGAF )methodology
