Job summary

Waste Management is seeking a driven Operations Manager responsible for day-to-day district collection activities across multiple sites, driving safety, efficiency, and cost control. You will work with drivers and supervisors to meet performance metrics and P&L targets.

The role involves coordinating with local agencies, enforcing OSHA standards, and leading a team through coaching, training, and performance reviews to deliver reliable service and contractual commitments.

Qualifications

  • Associate's Degree and High School Diploma or GED.
  • Two years of relevant work experience.
  • Two years in a role with supervisory and/or P&L responsibility.
  • Valid driver’s license with clean driving record.

Responsibilities

  • Manage day-to-day district operations and provide daily support to drivers to ensure safety, service, and savings.
  • Execute precautions to ensure safety and compliance with Company, OSHA, and other standards and regulations.
  • Ensure root cause investigations for injuries/incidents with coaching and retraining.
  • Oversee personnel needs, including hiring, coaching, disciplining, training, performance evaluation, and promotions/terminations.
  • Formulate short- and long-term goals and action plans with Senior District Manager/Director of Collection Operations.
  • Participate in P&L reviews to ensure budgets are met and optimize equipment utilization, maintenance, and labor/costs.
  • Interact with local city, municipal, and county agencies to renew or negotiate contracts; position WM as a valued resource.

Job description

I. Job Summary

Manages the day-to-day collection operations of a single site or multiple sites or a single Line of Business or multiple Lines of Business, establishes, and maintains performance and productivity metrics and cost management processes. Responsible for P&L. Route Managers and/or District Operations Managers will report directly to this role.

II. Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Manages the District’s day-to-day operations and provides daily support to drivers in ensuring safety, service, and savings.
  • Executes necessary precautions to ensure safety and compliance with Company, OSHA, and other standards and regulations.
  • Ensures thorough root cause investigations for all injuries and incidents, following up with consistent coaching and retraining.
  • Oversees department personnel needs, including selecting, coaching, disciplining, and training employees and evaluating employee performance. Manages termination, compensation, and promotion decisions.
  • Formulates short-term and long-term goals and action plans in conjunction with the Senior District Manager and/or Director of Collection Operations.
  • Participates in regular P&L reviews to ensure that budgets are met; develops and implements programs for optimal equipment utilization, equipment maintenance, and labor and material costs.
  • Interacts with local city, municipal, and county agencies to ensure customer satisfaction, improve efficiency, renew contracts, and negotiate new contracts; establishes WM as a good corporate citizen and valued resource.
III. Qualifications
A. Required Qualifications
  • Associate's Degree
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • two (2) years relevant of work experience
  • 2 years in a role with supervisory and/or P&L responsibility (in addition to education requirement).
  • Valid driver’s license and a clean driving record
  • Must be able to maintain a valid driver’s license and clean driving record throughout the duration of employment in this position

Combination: This job operates in a mix between an office environment and plant/field environment and routinely requires the use of standard office equipment such as computers, phones, copy machines, etc.

Pay: The expected base pay range for this on-site position is $95,700 – $135,000 per year. This range represents a good faith estimate for this position. The specific salary offered to a successful candidate may be influenced by a variety of factors including the candidate’s relevant experience, education, training, certifications, qualifications, and work location.

Employees will also receive discretionary paid time off, up to 80 hours of paid sick time per year, and 7 paid holidays throughout the calendar year. The Company provides this paid time off to comply with its obligations to provide paid sick and safe time (“PSST”) under Washington state law and local ordinances. Additionally, the Company has a leave pay policy that provides for up to 4 weeks of paid leave in a rolling 12-month period for qualifying leave.
