WM is seeking an Operations Manager to oversee daily collection operations across multiple sites (Marquette, Houghton, and Ashland) and several business lines in Michigan. The role drives performance metrics, cost management, and profitability, with direct reports including Operations Managers and Specialists.

The position requires leadership experience, budget oversight, and a valid driver’s license, along with a degree and relevant experience.

Qualifications

• Associate's Degree is required.
• High School Diploma or GED is required.
• Two (2) years relevant work experience is required.
• Two (2) years in a role with supervisory and/or P&L responsibility is required.
• Valid driver’s license is required.

Responsibilities

• Manages day-to-day district operations across multiple sites (Marquette, Houghton, and Ashland).
• Provides daily support to drivers to ensure safety, service, and savings.
• Ensures safety and compliance with Company, OSHA, and other standards.
• Oversees personnel needs including hiring, coaching, disciplining, training, performance evaluations, and handling terminations and promotions.
• Formulates short- and long-term goals with senior management and district leadership.
• Participates in regular P&L reviews to manage budgets, equipment utilization, and cost control.
• Interacts with local agencies to renew or negotiate contracts and promote WM as a good corporate citizen.

Manages the day-to-day collection operations of multiple sites (Marquette, Houghton, and Ashland) with multiple Lines of Business, establishes, and maintains performance and productivity metrics and cost management processes. Responsible for P&L. Operations Managers and Operations Specialists will report directly to this role.

II. Essential Duties And Responsibilities

• Manages the District’s day-to-day operations and provides daily support to drivers in ensuring safety, service, and savings.
• Executes necessary precautions to ensure safety and compliance with Company, OSHA, and other standards and regulations.
• Ensures thorough root cause investigations for all injuries and incidents, following up with consistent coaching and retraining.
• Oversees department personnel needs, including selecting, coaching, disciplining, and training employees and evaluating employee performance. Manages termination, compensation, and promotion decisions.
• Formulates short-term and long-term goals and action plans in conjunction with the Senior District Manager and/or Director of Collection Operations.
• Participates in regular P&L reviews to ensure that budgets are met; develops and implements programs for optimal equipment utilization, equipment maintenance, and labor and material costs.
• Interacts with local city, municipal, and county agencies to ensure customer satisfaction, improve efficiency, renew contracts, and negotiate new contracts; establishes WM as a good corporate citizen and valued resource.
