Job summary

WM is seeking a District Operations leader to manage day-to-day collection operations across one or multiple sites or lines of business. You will establish performance metrics, control costs, and report to the Senior District Manager or Director of Collection Operations.

The role requires supervising staff, coaching, and ensuring safety and compliance, with a focus on optimizing routes, contracts, and customer satisfaction at WM.

Qualifications

  • Associates degree required.
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Two years relevant work experience required.
  • Two years supervisory and/or P&L responsibility preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Oversees day-to-day district operations and supports drivers to ensure safety, service, and savings.
  • Ensures safety and regulatory compliance with Company, OSHA, and other standards.
  • Manages personnel needs, including coaching, training, and performance evaluations.

Job description

I. Job Summary

Manages the day-to-day collection operations of a single site or multiple sites or a single Line of Business or multiple Lines of Business, establishes, and maintains performance and productivity metrics and cost management processes. Responsible for P&L. Route Managers and/or District Operations Managers will report directly to this role.

II. Essential Duties And Responsibilities
  • Manages the District’s day-to-day operations and provides daily support to drivers in ensuring safety, service, and savings.
  • Executes necessary precautions to ensure safety and compliance with Company, OSHA, and other standards and regulations.
  • Ensures thorough root cause investigations for all injuries and incidents, following up with consistent coaching and retraining.
  • Oversees department personnel needs, including selecting, coaching, disciplining, and training employees and evaluating employee performance. Manages termination, compensation, and promotion decisions.
  • Formulates short-term and long-term goals and action plans in conjunction with the Senior District Manager and/or Director of Collection Operations.
  • Participates in regular P&L reviews to ensure that budgets are met; develops and implements programs for optimal equipment utilization, equipment maintenance, and labor and material costs.
  • Interacts with local city, municipal, and county agencies to ensure customer satisfaction, improve efficiency, renew contracts, and negotiate new contracts; establishes WM as a good corporate citizen and valued resource.

  • 2 years in a role with supervisory and/or P&L responsibility (in addition to education requirement).
  • Valid driver’s license and a clean driving record
  • Must be able to maintain a valid driver’s license and clean driving record throughout the duration of employment in this position

Pay

The expected base pay range for this on-site position is $95,700 – $135,000 per year. This range represents a good faith estimate for this position. The specific salary offered to a successful candidate may be influenced by a variety of factors including the candidate’s relevant experience, education, training, certifications, qualifications, and work location.

Employees will also receive discretionary paid time off, up to 80 hours of paid sick time per year, and 7 paid holidays throughout the calendar year. The Company provides this paid time off to comply with its obligations to provide paid sick and safe time (“PSST”) under Washington state law and local ordinances. Additionally, the Company has a leave pay policy that provides for up to 4 weeks of paid leave in a rolling 12-month period for qualifying leave.
