Job summary

WM is seeking aOperations Manager to lead day-to-day collection site operations and manage P&L performance, ensuring safety and efficiency. You will guide drivers, supervise staff, and drive cost controls.

The role requires a 2+ year supervisory/P&L background, a valid driver’s license, and a relevant degree. On-site work in California with competitive compensation and benefits offered by WM.

Qualifications

  • Must have an Associate's Degree (or high school diploma with 2 years of relevant work experience) and 2 years in a supervisory and/or P&L role.
  • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record required throughout employment.
  • Preferred MBA or Bachelor's degree; 2 years in a leadership/management role.

Responsibilities

  • Manage district day-to-day operations and support drivers for safety, service, and savings.
  • Ensure safety and regulatory compliance with company, OSHA, and other standards.
  • Conduct root cause investigations for injuries/incidents and provide coaching.
  • Oversee personnel: hiring, coaching, discipline, training, performance evaluations, promotions.
  • Set short- and long-term goals with Senior District Manager/Director of Collection Operations.
  • Participate in P&L reviews and optimize budgets, equipment utilization, and costs.
  • Engage with city/county agencies to renew contracts and negotiate new ones.

Job description

I. Job Summary

Manages the day-to-day collection operations of a single site, establishes, and maintains performance and productivity metrics and cost management processes. Responsible for P&L. Drivers will report directly to this role.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities
  • Manages the District’s day-to-day operations and provides daily support to drivers in ensuring safety, service, and savings.
  • Executes necessary precautions to ensure safety and compliance with Company, OSHA, and other standards and regulations.
  • Ensures thorough root cause investigations for all injuries and incidents, following up with consistent coaching and retraining.
  • Oversees department personnel needs, including selecting, coaching, disciplining, and training employees and evaluating employee performance. Manages termination, compensation, and promotion decisions.
  • Formulates short-term and long-term goals and action plans in conjunction with the Senior District Manager and/or Director of Collection Operations.
  • Participates in regular P&L reviews to ensure that budgets are met; develops and implements programs for optimal equipment utilization, equipment maintenance, and labor and material costs.
  • Interacts with local city, municipal, and county agencies to ensure customer satisfaction, improve efficiency, renew contracts, and negotiate new contracts; establishes WM as a good corporate citizen and valued resource.

  • Required Qualifications
  • Associate's Degree (accredited) or in lieu of degree,
  • High School Diploma or GED (accredited) and 2 years of relevant work experience.
  • 2 years in a role with supervisory and/or P&L responsibility (in addition to education requirement).
  • Valid driver’s license and a clean driving record
  • Must be able to maintain a valid driver’s license and clean driving record throughout the duration of employment in this position
  • Preferred Qualifications
  • MBA or Bachelors Degree
  • 2 years in a role with supervisory , lead or management role

PAY

The expected base for this office/on-site position is $95,000 - $115,000. This range represents a good faith estimate for this position. The specific salary offered to a successful candidate may be influenced by a variety of factors including the candidate’s relevant experience, education, training
