Job summary

WM is seeking a District Operations Manager to oversee day-to-day collection operations across sites, driving safety, service, and cost savings. You will lead a team, coach staff, and ensure adherence to company and regulatory standards.

You will participate in P&L reviews, set strategic goals, and coordinate with city and county agencies to renew or negotiate contracts while upholding WM’s corporate presence.

Qualifications

  • Associate's Degree and/or High School Diploma/GED required.
  • 2 years of relevant work experience.
  • 2 years in a role with supervisory and/or P&L responsibility.

Responsibilities

  • Manages the District’s day-to-day operations and supports drivers in safety, service, and savings.
  • Ensures safety and compliance with Company, OSHA, and other standards.
  • Conducts root-cause investigations for injuries/incidents and coaches accordingly.
  • Oversees personnel needs including coaching, disciplining, training, and evaluating performance.
  • Sets short- and long-term goals with leadership and develops action plans.
  • Participates in P&L reviews to meet budgets and optimize costs.
  • Engages with local agencies to renew and negotiate contracts and maintain WM reputation.

Job description

Manages the day-to-day collection operations of a single site or multiple sites or a single Line of Business or multiple Lines of Business, establishes, and maintains performance and productivity metrics and cost management processes. Responsible for P&L. Route Managers and/or District Operations Managers will report directly to this role.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities
  • Manages the District’s day-to-day operations and provides daily support to drivers in ensuring safety, service, and savings.
  • Executes necessary precautions to ensure safety and compliance with Company, OSHA, and other standards and regulations.
  • Ensures thorough root cause investigations for all injuries and incidents, following up with consistent coaching and retraining.
  • Oversees department personnel needs, including selecting, coaching, disciplining, and training employees and evaluating employee performance. Manages termination, compensation, and promotion decisions.
  • Formulates short-term and long-term goals and action plans in conjunction with the Senior District Manager and/or Director of Collection Operations.
  • Participates in regular P&L reviews to ensure that budgets are met; develops and implements programs for optimal equipment utilization, equipment maintenance, and labor and material costs.
  • Interacts with local city, municipal, and county agencies to ensure customer satisfaction, improve efficiency, renew contracts, and negotiate new contracts; establishes WM as a good corporate citizen and valued resource.

  • Valid driver’s license and a clean driving record
  • Must be able to maintain a valid driver’s license and clean driving record throughout the duration of employment in this position
