Job summary

Mayo Clinic is seeking an HIMS Manager to oversee department operations, budget, quality and safety, risk management and HR across multiple sites. The role requires strong leadership, staff development, and collaboration with clinicians, while guiding documentation best practices and regulatory compliance.

This is a hybrid position that supports remote work with occasional on-site requirements; candidates must reside within 100 miles of a Mayo Clinic campus.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in health information, organizational leadership, business or related field.
• Five years of related management experience; Master’s with 1–3 years preferred.
• Applicable AHIMA, HIMSS or AHDI credentials preferred.
• RHIT or RHIA required for HIMS operations areas.
• Willingness to lead across a wide geographical area and diverse schedules.

Job description

The HIMS Manager is responsible and accountable for department operations, fiscal/financial management, quality, and service, environment of care/safety, risk management, and human resource management. The Manager is able to manage remotely for multiple sites within region and/or state and/or health system encouraging self-directed teams. Coordinates activities for an on-site and telework 24/7 operation. The Manager promotes educational opportunities to staff and clinicians and encourages staff to learn, grow and take on leadership roles; provides leadership and representation for HIMS staff; serves on institutional committees/work groups/client practice groups; provides in-depth expertise in medical documentation best practices, process improvement, problem resolution and regulatory agency and institutional standards and requirements.

This is a hybrid position that is primarily remote. Candidates must reside within 100 miles of a Mayo Clinic campus to meet occasional on-site requirements based on business needs. Mayo Clinic campuses are located in Arizona, Florida, Minnesota, and Wisconsin.

Bachelor’s degree in health information, organizational leadership, business or related field with five years of related management experience. Preferred: Master’s with 1-3 years relevant management experience; Mayo Quality Academy certification or equivalent.

Demonstrate organizational, communication and teaching skills. Candidates must articulate a willingness to work with and be available to staff spread over a wide geographical area, with varying schedules. Manager will be expected to utilize technology for communication, but also to discern when a face-to-face presence is necessary. Applicable AHIMA, HIMSS or AHDI credentials preferred.

Those supporting HIMS Operation areas require RHIT or RHIA. IN other HIMS area, none required except where required by state law.

Health Information Administrator (RHIA) program students actively completing the last semester of the program will be considered; successful completion of RHIA program required withing 6 months of employment for continued employment.
