Job summary

Pittsburgh Mercy is seeking a Manager of Emergency Shelter Services to lead its facility-based shelter programs including Second Avenue Commons and Bethlehem Haven's Emergency Women’s Shelter. • Experience in mental health residential, substance use treatment and/or homeless services preferred.
• Excellent communication skills, both written and oral, plus strong documentation and meeting deadlines.
• Driver’s license and ability to operate a company vehicle.
• ACT 33/34/73 clearances and pre-employment drug screening.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Manager of Emergency Shelter Services provides leadership, oversight, and operational direction for Pittsburgh Mercy's facility-based emergency shelter programs, including Second Avenue Commons and Bethlehem Haven's Emergency Women's Shelter. This position is responsible for ensuring the delivery of safe, trauma-informed, person-centered, and low-barrier services for individuals experiencing homelessness. The Manager oversees daily shelter operations, supervises program leadership and direct service teams, ensures compliance with Pittsburgh Mercy policies, Allegheny County Department of Human Services (DHS) requirements, contractual obligations, and regulatory standards, and promotes a culture of quality, safety, and continuous improvement. The position collaborates extensively with internal departments and community partners to strengthen service coordination, improve client outcomes, address operational challenges, and advance organizational goals related to housing stability and wellness. All responsibilities are performed in accordance with applicable laws, regulations, accreditation standards, and Pittsburgh Mercy's mission, values, policies, and procedures.

REQUIREMENTS

1. Master’s Degree with 3 years as a manager/supervisor and a minimum of 3 years’ experience working in human services or healthcare setting OR Bachelor’s Degree with 5 years as a manager/supervisor and minimum of 5 years’ experience working in a human service or a healthcare setting.
2. Experience working in mental health residential, substance use treatment and/or homeless services are strongly preferred.
3. Must have excellent communication skills both written/oral along with great attention to detail relating to documentation, deadlines, and other deliverables.
4. A drivers' license is required along with the ability to operate a company vehicle/van.
5. ACT 33/34/73 clearances Pre-employment drug screening

SCHEDULE

(EXEMPT) Monday through Friday along with some non-traditional business hours and on-call coverage that may be required.
