Job Description
PURPOSE AND SCOPE:

The Manager, Disability Services serves as the lead and primaryadvocate for the Disability Service Office and assists students in accommodating their various learning and physical special needs.Oversees staff involved in implementing specific programs orprocesses. Collaborate with designated advising support staff incarrying our disability services to specified students. Providesleadership and supervision to ensure excellent student service andoperation of Disability Services.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
  1. Maintains confidential records related to students and studentswith disabilities guidelines (e.g., ADA, FERPA) and providenecessary reports as needed and ensure LSC policies and practicesare met
  2. Manage a campus-wide comprehensive extra and co-curricularprogram for student with learning challenges and/ordisabilities
  3. Interviews student and evaluates student documentation todetermine accommodations of disability services. Advises studentswith disabilities on the process for acquiring accommodations,including determination of documentation required under the ADAregulations
  4. Develop and deliver workshops on a variety of learning topicsand tools for all students but mainly those with learningdisabilities
  5. Resolve student conflicts and determine appropriate course ofaction as needed
  6. Provide consultation to faculty, staff members andadministrators through individual communications and trainings
  7. Conduct intake interviews, review disability assessments anddetermine appropriate accommodations for students withdisabilities
  8. Serve as a liaison to counselors/faculty in the divisions toprovide academic support to students with disabilities
  9. Advise students with disabilities on the accommodation processfor testing, for interpreters and Assistive Technology lab
  10. Provides expert advice to students with disabilities, includingdetermination of documentation required under the ADAregulations
  11. Communicates with Assistive Technology Lab peers as neededregarding student issues
  12. May hire, train and supervise support staff
  13. Responsible for other reasonable, related duties asassigned
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

The work is sedentary. Typically, the employee sits comfortably todo the work. However, there may be some walking; standing; bending;carrying of light items, such as papers, books, or small parts; ordriving an automobile. No special physical demands are required toperform the work.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:
  • Equipment used includes, PC workstation running on a LAN in aMicrosoft Windows environment, calculator, phone and other generaloffice equipment
  • Interface with internal and external contacts as needed tocarry out the functions of the position
  • Work is performed in a climate-controlled office with minimalexposure to safety hazards
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor's degree and at least 5 years of experience, or anequivalent combination of education and experience
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Experience working in higher education
  • Experience working and communicating with a diverse studentpopulation
Salary

Hiring salary range is: $58,625- $67,419

Lone Star College provides a hiring salary range for all postedfull-time non-faculty positions. Where your salary offer would fallin that range is determined by your related experience andeducation.
