Job summary

Lone Star College-Kingwood is seeking a Specialist IV, Learning Support to provide tutoring assistance and learning-lab guidance to students, collaborating with faculty to implement programs and supervise part-time staff.

The role emphasizes developing operational processes, coordinating tutoring services, and disseminating centralized information to support student success and policy compliance across the campus.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Works directly with faculty to help develop, implement and revise tutoring and learning lab activities.
  • Assist in the development of administrative processes that support instruction and students in assigned area.
  • Assists with hiring, scheduling, supervising and training part-time staff; creates and maintains training and procedure manuals.
  • Coordinates and supervises delivery of tutoring services and/or learning labs. May provide tutoring to students as needed.
  • Compiles and coordinates information from tutoring centers/labs on campus to disseminate centralized information for students.
  • Facilitates study groups and conducts workshops with students to enhance academic success and tracks attendance.
  • Works with faculty to track success of instructional support area.
  • Runs a variety of reports/queries requested by internal contacts for data-tracking.
  • Communicates externally with vendors and internally with various requesters to resolve issues.
  • Maintains and coordinates equipment inventory and resources for tutoring and staff use.
  • Participates in department and college meetings, committees and task forces as required
  • Responsible for other reasonable related duties as assigned

Job Description

PURPOSE AND SCOPE:

The Specialist IV, Learning Support acts as an expert in assigned area of instructional support with a focus on tutoring and learning labs. Provides tutoring assistance, advice and information to students in regards to assigned subject/area. Implements and directs processes and procedures to facilitate program, including directing others who may/may not be direct reports. Ensures that all System policies and practices surrounding assigned area are implemented and carried out correctly by others.


ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:


  1. Works directly with faculty to help develop, implement and revise tutoring and learning lab activities. Assists faculty members with general course related activities as needed

  2. Assist in the development of administrative processes that support instruction and students in assigned area

  3. Assists with hiring, scheduling, supervising and training part-time staff; creates and maintains training and procedure manuals

  4. Coordinates and supervises delivery of tutoring services and/or learning labs. May provide tutoring to students as needed

  5. Compiles and coordinates information from tutoring centers/labs on campus to disseminate centralized information for students

  6. Facilitates study groups and conducts workshops with students to enhance academic success and tracks attendance

  7. Works with faculty to track success of instructional support area

  8. Runs a variety of reports/queries requested by internal contacts for data-tracking

  9. Communicates externally with vendors and internally with various requesters (DOMs, Deans, Managers) to resolve issues

  10. May be responsible for maintaining and coordinating equipment inventory and resources for tutoring and staff use

  11. Participates in department and college meetings, committees and task forces as required

  12. Responsible for other reasonable related duties as assigned


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

PHYSICAL ABILITIES:

The work is sedentary. Typically, the employee sits comfortably to do the work. However, there may be some walking; standing; bending; carrying of light items, such as papers, books, or small parts; or driving an automobile. No special physical demands are required to perform the work.


WORK SCHEDULE AND CONDITIONS:


  • Equipment used includes, PC workstation running on a LAN in a Microsoft Windows environment, calculator, phone and other general office equipment

  • Interface with internal and external contacts as needed to carry out the functions of the position

  • Work is performed in a climate-controlled office with minimal exposure to safety hazards


REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:


  • High school diploma and at least 5 years of experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:


  • Associate degree or higher

  • Experience must include at least 2 years in a supervisory level position

  • Experience tutoring in the assigned discipline


Salary

Hiring salary range is $36,057 to $41,466.


Lone Star College provides a hiring salary range for all posted full-time non-faculty positions. Where your salary offer would fall in that range is determined by your related experience and education.
