Job description

Many structural heart patients suffer from heart failure with limited options. Our Implantable Heart Failure Management (IHFM) team is at the forefront of addressing these unmet patient needs through pioneering technology that enables early, targeted therapeutic intervention. Our innovative solutions are not just transforming patient care but also creating a unique and exciting environment for our team members. It’s our driving force to help patients live longer and healthier lives. Join us and be part of our inspiring journey.

How you will make an impact:

We are seeking an enthusiastic and motivated manager for our growing Data Science Team. We have a constantly expanding, unique, and rich healthcare dataset and have big plans to leverage this for the betterment of our patients. You will have the opportunity to build, mold, and grow this team within a largely greenfield infrastructure. This is a rare opportunity to lead the development of innovative solutions with a significant impact on patients’ daily lives.

This role involves people management, with responsibilities including building, leading, and managing the Data Science team daily. You will oversee the development of algorithms and models for internal use or deployment as product features for clinicians or patients. Your role will be to provide direction, guidance, and structure, while being central to hypothesis testing and experimentation. You will be empowered to deliver innovative, insightful, and impactful projects.

Additional Roles/Responsibilities:
  1. Hire, build, and grow the data science team. Multiple expansion requisitions approved for FY’25.
  2. Manage, mentor, and guide team members to excel in their roles. Leverage your deep technical expertise to provide insights and guidance, and constructively challenge proposals.
  3. Handle career development and annual reviews for team members.
  4. Own the Data Science roadmap and project backlog. Use your project management skills to steer and prioritize the team’s workload and projects.
  5. Translate complex technical approaches into digestible presentations and updates for management and senior leadership.
  6. Coordinate with Data Engineering, Data Analytics, and external groups to understand needs and progress team goals.
  7. Demonstrate good data governance practices, ensuring confidentiality and sensitivity, especially regarding Patient Health Information (PHI).
What you'll need (Required):
  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Biostatistics, or a related scientific field, including industry or educational experience, OR
  • Master's Degree or equivalent in the same fields, OR
  • Ph.D. or equivalent in the same fields.

Experience in technical leadership or management roles, with hands-on knowledge of mathematical principles, statistics, data analytics, and data science, especially in building models and deriving insights.

What else we look for (Preferred):
  • Experience as a Data Scientist, Statistician, or similar technical data role.
  • Expertise in machine learning, data science, and AI systems.
  • Experience analyzing clinical or patient data (preferred).
  • Proven ability to manage teams and provide coaching, including employee actions like hiring and firing, in partnership with HR.
  • Ability to develop metrics demonstrating the value of machine learning and AI to the business.
  • Attention to detail and professionalism in interactions at all organizational levels.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Strong leadership skills to guide cross-functional teams in implementing enterprise systems.
  • Adherence to company policies, safety, and environmental protocols.

We offer competitive salaries, performance incentives, and benefits tailored to diverse needs. For Illinois, the base pay range is $118,000 to $167,000, depending on experience and qualifications.
