Job Title: Manager of Data Science

National Grid is hiring a Manager of Data Science. This position offers remote flexibility, with the requirement that candidates reside in one of the following states: New York (NY), New Jersey (NJ), Massachusetts (MA), Connecticut (CT), Vermont (VT), Rhode Island (RI), Maine (ME), or New Hampshire (NH).

Job Purpose

As a Data Science Manager at National Grid, you will lead a team and perform hands-on work, including delivering projects, building AI models, coding, and more. You will work in a dynamic organization to turn data into actionable intelligence, addressing complex challenges that impact millions of people.

The Data Science team provides insights from multiple sources using analysis techniques ranging from simple to advanced. Cross-functional collaboration and agile teamwork are essential, and a broad knowledge of statistical & probabilistic analyses, programming/software development, and effective visualization and presentation is required.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead, manage, and mentor a team of Data Scientists.
• Employ analytics programs, machine learning, and statistical methods for predictive and prescriptive modeling, forecasting, and simulations.
• Integrate data from various sources and formats for analysis.
• Manage projects across internal teams and enterprise-wide efforts in the US and UK, covering gas, electric, and support functions.
• Foster curiosity and continuous learning within the team.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of Data Science experience, preferably in the utility or energy sector.
• Experience leading a Data Science team.
• Strong communication skills to interact with stakeholders and translate technical concepts into business terms.
• Proficiency in Data Science tools and techniques, including statistics, machine learning, and GenAI.
• Experience with Python, SQL, and cloud computing (Azure preferred).
• Master’s degree in a quantitative discipline; exceptional candidates with a Bachelor’s or ongoing Master’s considered.

Preferred Skills and Experience

• Full lifecycle experience of Data Science products.
• Regulated utility experience.
• Experience with GenAI and LLM tools.
• Participation in Data Science competitions (Kaggle, KDNuggets, etc.).
• Experience in experimental design, interactive visualization tools (Power BI), and GIS (ArcGIS).

Additional Information

Salary range: $161k - $189k per year.
