Job summary

The Association of Corporate Counsel is seeking a Manager, Chapters in Washington, DC. You will guide chapter leaders, provide training, and ensure compliance with ACC standards while engaging members.

Job description

The Manager of Chapters guides chapter leaders and administrators in building communities where in-house counsel feel they belong. This role provides training, tools, and direct support to help chapters meet ACC standards and engage their members. The Manager oversees chapter compliance, member engagement, and the chapter rebates program, in partnership with the Associate Director, Chapters.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS, DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Review requirements with each assigned chapter. Help leaders meet requirements and follow ACC guidance.
  • Send monthly updates to volunteers and administrators on new programs and events.
  • Build and maintain the annual training schedule for chapter leaders and chapter administrators.
  • Plan and run Chapter Administrator Training at the ACC Annual Meeting.
  • Lead training calls and share tools and resources with chapter leaders.
  • Attend virtual chapter meetings. Follow up on member plans, reports, and other needs.
  • Advise chapters on running programs and planning ahead.
  • Write and update leader guides and best practice tools.
  • Train new leaders and administrators on ACC tools, including email, event, and file systems.
  • Track chapter activity with the Coordinator, Chapters. Ensure reports and documents arrive on time.
  • Issue certificates of insurance for chapter programs.
  • Lead or join chapter strategic planning sessions as needed.
  • Test new tools to improve chapter work. Help chapters adopt new systems.
  • Serve as main contact for chapter leaders and administrators.
  • Visit one to two chapters yearly to share ACC services in person.
  • Supervise the Coordinator, Chapters and Chapter Assistant, assigning daily tasks.
  • Check in monthly with administrators to address questions and confirm needs.
  • Co-manage quarterly chapter rebates with the Associate Director, Chapters, calculating and tracking amounts, and working with accounting on the pay‑out process.
EDUCATION

Bachelor’s degree in business administration or similar concentration.

WORK EXPERIENCE
  • At least 5 years of experience in a professional association or similar, with direct responsibility for volunteer management, member retention, and membership recruitment.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to tailor messages for chapter leaders, members, and internal staff audiences.
  • Proven project management skills, with a record of delivering multiple concurrent initiatives on time and within scope in a high-volume work environment.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office. Familiarity with association management systems (Salesforce a plus), listserv software, and content management platforms.
  • Skilled at building trust with a wide range of stakeholders, including ACC members and volunteer leaders, staff, and external partners at all career stages.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

This position has two direct reports: Coordinator of Chapters and Chapters Assistant (PT)

LANGUAGES

ACC seeks to hire multilingual candidates. Fluency in English is required, and a second language is preferred.

TRAVEL

Travel as needed.

SALARY RANGE

$75,000 to $85,000 - When determining a salary offer, consideration is given to candidates that possess minimum requirements and preferred qualifications.

  • The flexibility of a hybrid schedule (only two days in the office on either Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday) and remaining days you can work from home. Staff working in the Washington, DC office must reside in the DMV area.
