Job summary

Onto Innovation in Massachusetts is seeking an Accounting Manager to oversee monthly, quarterly, and year-end close, ensure accurate financial reporting, and maintain internal controls across corporate accounting.

You will partner with FP&A, tax, treasury, and auditors, mentor staff, drive process improvements, including automation, and support external audits while applying US GAAP and company policies.

Job Summary & Responsibilities

The Accounting Manager is responsible for overseeing accounting activities, ensuring accurate financial reporting, maintaining strong internal controls, and supporting month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes. This role partners with finance, operations, tax, treasury, and external auditors to ensure compliance with accounting standards and company policies while providing meaningful financial insight to management.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage the monthly, quarterly, and annual close process for corporate accounting areas, ensuring timely and accurate completion of journal entries, account reconciliations, and financial reporting deliverables.
• Review and analyze balance sheet and income statement accounts, investigate variances, and communicate key findings to senior finance leadership.
• Oversee general ledger activity, corporate allocations, accruals, prepaid expenses, fixed assets, intercompany transactions, and other corporate accounting areas as assigned.
• Develop, maintain, and improve accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls in accordance with U.S. GAAP and company requirements.
• Support external and internal audit requests, including preparation of schedules, documentation, and explanations for accounting conclusions.
• Lead, coach, and develop accounting staff by setting priorities, reviewing work, providing feedback, and supporting professional growth.
• Partner with FP&A, tax, treasury, procurement, and operations teams to resolve accounting matters and support business initiatives.
• Identify process improvement opportunities, including automation, standardization, and improved use of accounting systems and reporting tools.
• Support special projects, system implementations, mergers and acquisitions, or other corporate finance initiatives.
• Support automation and process improvement initiatives within the accounting organization.
• Contribute to the standardization and documentation of recurring accounting processes.

Qualifications

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
• Minimum of 3-5 years of progressive accounting experience, including experience with month-end close, financial reporting, reconciliations, and internal controls.
• Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP and corporate accounting practices.
• Experience supervising, leading, or mentoring accounting professionals.
• Proficiency with enterprise accounting systems and Microsoft Excel.
• Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills with high attention to detail.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain accounting matters to non-accounting stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications

• CPA or CMA certification.
• Public accounting experience or experience working with external auditors.
• Experience with Oracle, SAP, Workday, Hyperion, or similar accounting and reporting systems.
• Experience in a publicly traded company or SOX-controlled environment.
• Advanced Excel skills and familiarity with process automation or data analytics tools.

Compensation & Growth

• Base Salary Range: $115,200.00 - $172,800.00, offered in good faith and based on experience, location, and qualifications.
• Additional Rewards: Annual bonus opportunities and potential long-term incentives tied to both company and individual success.
