Job Description

General Description of the Job Class

Perform a variety of technical activities associated with the performance of screening and diagnostic mammography procedures.

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Operate mammographic radiographic equipment and other related devices.
  2. Position patients, using immobilization when necessary, and assist physicians.
  3. Perform quality control functions related to mammography.
  4. Evaluate radiographs for diagnostic quality and obtain additional images as needed.
  5. Prepare and set up medical supplies using aseptic techniques if appropriate.
  6. Explain procedures to patients.
  7. Charge mammographic procedures and supplies in Maestro or EPIC.
  8. Provide orientation and training to new and student Mammographers.
  9. Assist in maintenance and statistical data compilation.
  10. Perform all breast imaging procedures, including interventional procedures.
  11. Monitor section procedures and supply charges for accuracy and completeness.
  12. Perform other related duties as needed.

Qualifications

Education

Graduate from or completion of a program meeting eligibility for registry/certification, or currently holding required registry or certification. Technologists qualifying after April 28, 1999, must have at least 40 hours of documented mammography training.

Experience

  • Level I: Obtain ARRT certification at employment and perform at least 25 mammograms under supervision, with 8 hours of modality-specific training.
  • Level II: Minimum of 2 years' experience and at least 200 mammograms in 24 months.
  • Level III: Minimum of 4 years' experience within the specialty modality.

Licensure and Certification

  • ARRT certification in radiography and advanced certification in mammography.
  • FDA/MQSA qualification, including 15 CEUs in 36 months (at least 6 CEUs per modality).
  • BLS certification.
Skills and Abilities

Strong technical skills, attention to detail, ability to educate patients, and proficiency with relevant imaging equipment.
