As the Mammography Technologist, you will provide radiological care to patients undergoing screening and diagnostic mammography examinations. Ensure the department consistently produces high-quality mammographic exams and procedures to aid in medical diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of disease. Work closely with physicians and RNs to ensure the department operates in compliance with regulations.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Perform all routine mammograms, demonstrating the anatomy under investigation through proper patient positioning and technique selection, according to department policy and procedure.
- Receive consultation requests, check for special instructions from the requesting physician, and consult with the radiologist as necessary.
- Greet patients pleasantly, confirm their identification, and introduce yourself.
- Explain the examination procedure completely to the patient and their family if present.
- Complete history forms accurately on all patients.
- Evaluate every film for technical quality, proper positioning, patient identification, stamp, and right and left markers.
- Update patient exam files, record unusual conditions or limitations, and document film usage. Perform other paperwork as applicable.
- Demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patient served in mammography (adult and geriatric).
- Assist with retrieving and coordinating films needed for biopsy procedures.
- Assist with needle localization and stereotactic procedures, always practicing aseptic techniques.
- Telephone or fax results when requested, with no more than two omissions annually.
- In the absence of film room staff, prepare patients' jackets with the proper barcode labels and perform loaning procedures if necessary.
- Receive and/or initiate no more than five two-minute phone calls per week.
- Promote a professional image by adhering to the established dress code.
- Demonstrate cost-effectiveness in the use of supplies and equipment through minimal wastage. Notify the supervisor when supplies are low.
Required:
- A Massachusetts Mammography license and ARRT certification are required.
- Proficiency in all areas of mammography and quality assurance testing of mammographic equipment.
