The Mammography Technologist is responsible for performing mammography examinations following ACR requirements, including screening and diagnostic mammography as well as all Mammographic procedures.
Responsibilities
- Performs diagnostic and screening mammographic examinations on adult, adolescent, and geriatric patients in an expedient and professional manner.
- Performs all mammographic imaging procedures as trained.
- Provides immobilization devices, selects proper technical factors based on individual patient needs, and operates equipment for specific procedures.
- Performs bone density procedures as assigned.
- Identifies patient's images with the correct name, MRN number, and ensures images are correctly marked and have technologist's initials.
- Assists with quality control procedures and documentation, including phantom images, repeat analysis, calibration tests, and other quality assurance activities.
- Assists with compiling statistics for patient follow-ups, tracking breast localizations, biopsy recommendations, and follow-up on positive biopsy reports.
- Documents procedures regarding quality control and assurance in compliance with ACR, MQSA, NJ State, and FDA.
- Ensures proper use of the Faxitron system.
- Documents in EMR (EPIC) relevant patient information.
- Modifies and delivers care to meet the needs of the patient population served, considering age, culture, language, and impairments.
- Ensures equipment is cleaned and maintained according to manufacturer instructions.
- Verbalizes proper shielding protocol and practices "Image Gently" and "Image Wisely" principles.
- Ensures rooms are stocked and organized.
- Properly labels specimen images.
- Tracks patient location in Epic during visits.
- Begins and ends procedures timely.
- Recognizes equipment errors and initiates corrective actions.
- Performs other duties and projects as assigned.
- Adheres to organizational competencies and standards of behavior.
- Lifts minimum weights as specified and stands for extended periods.
Qualifications
- High School diploma or GED.
- Graduate of an AMA-approved School of Radiologic Technology.
- Must meet requirements for the ARRT certification and pass the exam.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and Google Suite.
Licenses and Certifications
- NJ state license for Diagnostic Radiology.
- ARRT certification.
- AHA Basic Health Care Life Support (BLS) certification within 60 days of employment.
