Job Details
- The Mammography Technologist performs mammography exams, screenings, diagnostic studies, and assists during invasive procedures. Under the physician's direction, detects breast tissue abnormalities and presents findings for diagnosis. Provides patient care and education before, during, and after procedures.
Responsibilities
- Operate mammography equipment and perform examinations for screening and diagnosis.
- Ensure proper patient positioning, instruct patients, and adjust equipment for optimal images.
- Maintain radiation safety standards for staff and patients.
- Document procedures and patient information accurately.
- Provide patient support, explain procedures, and answer inquiries.
- Perform preventive maintenance and troubleshoot equipment issues.
- Participate in quality assurance and control activities.
- Maintain continuing education for licensure and certification.
Qualifications
- Graduate of a recognized Radiology Sciences program or hold ARRT certification in Radiology (R), with preferred ARRT (CT) certification.
- Complete 40 hours of mammography-specific training if qualifying after April 28, 1999.
- On-the-job training or didactic program completion for digital mammography required within specified timeframes.
- 6 months to 1 year of experience preferred.
Certifications
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- ARRT certification in radiography and mammography, with MQSA CE requirements met within 36 months.
