Job description

Job Profile Summary

This role focuses on using various imaging techniques and practices to aid in the diagnosis and treatment of patients. It involves performing Mammography duties such as evaluating physical conditions related to breast tissue imaging. The role requires specialized knowledge or skills gained through vocational education, training, and experience, primarily applied to patient care and scientific/laboratory jobs. As a senior-level position, it demands broad operational knowledge, extensive work experience, and vocational or technical education. The technologist works under limited supervision for routine situations, while more complex problems require analysis. The role may also include leading and training entry-level employees and overseeing daily operations.

The Mammography Department at Tufts Medical Center

We are a full-service breast imaging center collaborating closely with the Breast Health Center, oncology, pathology, and primary care. Responsibilities include performing or assisting with exams and procedures such as screening and diagnostic mammograms, breast ultrasounds, wire localizations, MOLLI localizations, stereotactic core biopsy, ultrasound-guided core biopsy, and clip placements.

Job Description

Minimum Qualifications:

• Associate degree in Radiology or related field.
• Radiologic Technologist Certification (ARRT).
• Mammography Technologist Certification (ARRT).
• Radiologic Technologist state license or license eligible.
• Four (4) years of experience as a Mammography Technologist.
• Basic Life Support Certification.

Preferred Qualifications:

• X-Ray experience.

Duties and Responsibilities:

The following are general duties; other tasks may be assigned:

• Perform mammography exams and procedures independently according to policy and ACR/MQSA standards.
• Verify patient identity and procedure details.
• Provide clear instructions to patients.
• Ensure correct imaging protocols, steps, procedures, and scanner settings for each patient.
• Maintain safety for patients and staff regarding equipment use.
• Participate in ongoing education and training.
• Perform quality control on equipment and devices.
• Coordinate care with other staff and departments.
• Manage supply inventory and request reorders as needed.
• Keep work areas clean and compliant with DPH and The Joint Commission standards.
• Train and educate students and technologists on proper procedures.

Physical Requirements:

• Frequent standing, occasional sitting, walking, and lifting 30-35 lbs.
• Manual dexterity for operating radiology equipment.
• Sufficient hearing and visual acuity for examinations, patient observation, reading monitors, and hearing alarms.
• Exposure to bodily fluids and communicable diseases.
