Job Description
The Mammography Radiographer reflects the mission, vision, and values of NM, adheres to the organization’s Code of Ethics and Corporate Compliance Program, and complies with all relevant policies, procedures, guidelines, and regulatory standards.
The Mammography Radiographer performs general mammography imaging procedures to generate imaging information necessary for diagnosis and treatment of outpatients, following industry standards, department protocols, and hospital policies.

Responsibilities:

  1. Evaluates procedure requests and assesses patients to determine appropriate protocols.
  2. Uses imaging systems, accessory devices, and patient positioning techniques to generate mammography images.
  3. Cares for the patient throughout the procedure following standards and patient-first guidelines.
  4. Evaluates images, compares with industry standards, and takes corrective actions if needed.
  5. Performs preliminary interpretation, applying independent judgment to expedite radiologist intervention if necessary.
  6. Notifies physicians of patient condition changes or imaging characteristics.
  7. Assists radiologists in interventional procedures, prepares sterile trays and equipment.
  8. Maintains medical records of procedures and images.
  9. Provides patient education to reduce anxiety and improve comfort.
  10. Adheres to radiation safety practices to limit exposure.
  11. Performs Quality Control testing as per FDA/ACR guidelines and reports issues.

Additional Functions:

  1. Documents procedures for billing and tracking.
  2. Monitors and maintains supplies and equipment.
  3. Reports equipment issues promptly.

Qualifications:

  • Graduation from a hospital-based Radiologic Technology program or an Associate Degree in Radiology Technology.
  • 40 hours of advanced Mammography training in an MQSA-approved program; 250 supervised exams.
  • IDNS licensed.
  • ARRT registered in Radiography (R).
  • ARRT Mammography registration within 12 months of hire.
  • Competency in Mammography to meet MQSA standards.
  • CPR - Basic Life Support certification through AHA.

Preferred:

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • Three or more years of experience.
