Description

The Radiographer reflects the mission, vision, and values of NM, adheres to the organization’s Code of Ethics and Corporate Compliance Program, and complies with all relevant policies, procedures, guidelines, and all other regulatory and accreditation standards.

The Radiographer is primarily responsible for performing general radiographic diagnostic imaging procedures to generate imaging information necessary for the diagnosis and subsequent treatment of outpatients. Services are to be provided in accordance with industry standards, organization standards, and Department procedures and protocols.

Responsibilities
  1. Receives, reviews, and evaluates radiographic requisitions to determine the appropriate procedure, protocol, and method of application needed to complete the x-ray exam.
  2. Provides quality patient care & customer service according to Foundation and department practices. Provides patient education through verbal explanation prior to, during, and after the procedure to reduce anxiety and improve comfort and tolerance. Care for the patient throughout the procedure, including escorting to and from the exam rooms.
  3. Employs imaging systems, accessory devices, and patient positioning techniques to generate general radiographic images. Performs imaging procedures following safe radiation practices as per Illinois Department of Nuclear Safety and NCR standards to limit radiation exposure.
  4. Evaluates completed images against industry standards (e.g., Merrill’s Atlas) and takes corrective actions as needed. Ensures high-quality radiographs with optimal productivity and customer service.
  5. Produces high-quality radiographs to minimize patient radiation exposure using techniques such as coning, radiographic filters, and lead shielding. Aims to reduce repeats and maintain quality control. Collects and records data for quality management documentation.
  6. Completes and verifies billing information on charge vouchers to ensure accurate billing for radiographic services.
  7. Reports equipment problems, failures, irregularities, and disrepair to management and vendors promptly.
  8. Assists with clerical functions within the department, including filing, film retrieval, inventory monitoring, and ordering supplies as needed.
Qualifications
Required:
  • Certification in Radiography by the American Registry of Radiologic Technology
  • Active license with Illinois Emergency Management Administration (IEMA)
  • Graduation from an accredited Radiography program
  • Associates Degree in Applied Science, Radiography OR Certificate of Completion, Radiography Program (hospital sponsored)
  • CPR - Basic Life Support certification through American Heart Association (AHA)
  • Zero (0) to two (2) years’ experience in radiology
Preferred:
  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Three (3) to five (5) years’ experience in Radiography at a healthcare institution
