Job summary

The City of Lynchburg invites applications for the Makerspace Manager, leading the Lynchburg Public Library’s new Makerspace. The role focuses on STEAM programs, digital literacy and hands-on learning, aligning activities with the library’s mission and the upcoming Main Library renovation.

Ideal candidates will blend leadership with a passion for emerging technologies and public service, translating complex concepts into engaging learning experiences for diverse audiences.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in education, science, technology, instructional technology, or related field is required.
• Master’s degree in Library and Information Science (ALA-accredited) preferred.
• Experience with technology, hands-on learning environments and educational or library programming is required.
• Experience developing and delivering programs for public-facing institutions such as libraries, museums or schools.
• Strong organizational, communication, problem-solving and interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead the development, implementation and ongoing operation of the Makerspace and establish procedures, workflows, and service standards.
• Develop and implement policies for equipment use, patron access, training and safety.
• Oversee equipment selection, installation, maintenance and troubleshooting.
• Maintain an organized, safe, accessible environment for patrons, staff and volunteers.
• Develop operating budgets, inventories and replacement plans.
• Establish performance measures and assess program participation and community impact.
• Other duties to provide direct or indirect services to citizens may be assigned.
