The Makerspace Manager at City of Lynchburg, VA leads the newly established Lynchburg Public Library Makerspace, a community learning environment opening 2027. The role develops STEAM programs, promotes digital literacy and hands-on learning, and translates technical concepts for diverse audiences.

Responsibilities include leading operations, policy development, budgeting, partnerships and outreach, with opportunities to work across departments to expand access to emerging technologies.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in education, science, technology, instructional technology, or related field.
• Master’s degree in Library and Information Science from an ALA-accredited program preferred.
• Demonstrated experience working with technology, hands-on learning environments, educational or library programming.
• Experience developing and delivering programs, training or instructional activities for the public in a library or similar setting.
• Strong organizational, communication, problem-solving and interpersonal skills.

Responsabilités

• Lead the development, implementation and operation of the Makerspace and related services.
• Develop policies for equipment use, patron access, training, safety and responsible use.
• Oversee acquisition, installation, maintenance and troubleshooting of Makerspace equipment.
• Maintain a safe, accessible, welcoming environment for patrons, staff and volunteers.
• Develop operating budgets, inventories and replacement plans for equipment.
• Establish performance measures and assess program participation and impact.
• Collaborate with other library departments to integrate Makerspace resources into programs.
