Job summary

Library Systems and Services is seeking a creative, enthusiastic Makerspace Coordinator to lead the makerspace operations, manage memberships, equipment, and instructional programs. The role emphasizes outreach and promoting maker activities to the community.

The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with maker technologies such as 3D printing and sewing, strong instructional and customer service skills, and the ability to work evenings and weekends in a public library environment.

Qualifications

• H.S. Diploma required.
• Two years experience with makerspace technology.
• Public library tech experience preferred.
• Experience in planning and executing programs.
• Strong writing, presentation, and public speaking skills.
• Excellent instructional and customer service skills
• Familiarity with tools and equipment associated with a makerspace, including 3D printing, electronics/ robotics, sewing and Cricut machines, Apple technology including iPads
• Ability to exercise independent judgment, critical thinking, and decision-making skills
• Ability to work evenings/weekends
• Bilingual speaking is a plus

Responsibilities

• Foster a welcoming, safe, inclusive environment in the Makerspace.
• Oversees the development and implementation of programs, policies and procedures for the makerspace.
• Develop and maintain an inventory of equipment; develop application and instructional manuals.
• Work and build relationships with students, faculty, and staff; support development and operation of programs which serve the community.
• Compile Makerspace user statistics monthly; participate in departmental goals and objectives.
• Design, initiate, plan, host, and conduct programs and activities in the Makerspace for the public, with focus on school age, tweens, older teens and adults.
• Provide guidance and support to patrons, assisting with project ideas, troubleshooting, and technical skills.
• Perform general troubleshooting and routine maintenance of equipment and software; liaise with IT for advanced issues.
• Represent the Library at community events and outreach to promote makerspace resources.
• Assist at circulation and patron assistance as required.
• Plan and promote Summer Learning events and programs associated with the Makerspace.
• Address patron conduct or safety issues to management.
• Follow all Huntsville Public Library policies and procedures.
• Works with staff to plan and promoteSummer Learning events and programs associated with the Makerspace
