Job summary

Library Systems and Services seeks a creative, hands‑on Makerspace Coordinator for Huntsville, TX. You will oversee the Makerspace, manage memberships and equipment, develop educational programs, and promote space usage to the community.

Ideal candidates have experience with 3D printing, electronics/robotics, sewing and Cricut, and comfort with Apple devices. This role regularly interacts with students and the public and requires strong instructional skills.

Qualifications

• High school diploma required; bachelor’s degree preferred.
• Two years of experience with makerspace technology or related creative work.
• Public library experience with technology and the public preferred.
• Experience in planning and executing programs and events.
• Strong writing, presentation, and public speaking skills.
• Excellent instructional and customer service skills.
• Familiarity with makerspace tools: 3D printing, electronics/robotics, sewing, Cricut, and Apple devices.
• Ability to exercise independent judgment, critical thinking and decision-making.
• Ability to work evenings/weekends.
• Bilingual abilities are a plus.

Responsibilities

• Foster a welcoming, safe, inclusive, and organized Makerspace environment encouraging creativity and skills development.
• Oversee development and implementation of programs, policies, and procedures for the Makerspace.
• Maintain equipment inventory and instructional manuals; stay current with MakerSpace trends and recommend improvements.
• Build relationships with students, faculty, staff; support community programs and public audiences.
• Compile monthly Makerspace usage statistics and contribute to departmental goals.
• Design, plan, host, and conduct programs for the public, focusing on youth and adults.
• Guide patrons with project ideas, troubleshooting, and using provided equipment and software.
• Troubleshoot and perform routine maintenance on equipment; liaise with IT for advanced issues.
• Represent the Library at events and promote Makerspace resources through outreach.
• Assist at circulation and patron services as needed; support Summer Learning events.
• Address patron conduct or safety issues with management.
• Follow Huntsville Public Library policies and procedures.
