Job summary

Chapman University seeks an Associate Director of Development to lead major gift activities and advance a best-in-class program. Reporting to the Associate Vice President, Development, the role manages a portfolio of prospects and donors, guiding discovery, qualification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship while traveling regionally to engage alumni and friends of the university.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree required.
• Minimum three years in donor cultivation, personal solicitation of major gifts, donor stewardship, prospect management, and/or volunteer management.
• Demonstrated understanding of major gift cycle and donor relationships.
• Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills.
• Strong analytical skills and ability to meet deadlines.

Responsibilities

• Serve as front-line major gift officer responsible for discovery, qualification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of prospects and donors capable of making major gifts to Chapman University.
• Manage an established portfolio of approximately 120–150 prospects and donors, building an active portfolio.
• Travel regionally to engage alumni, parents, donors, and friends of the institution.
• Develop and present fundraising proposals; collaborate to close gifts and pledges.
• Document donor activity in the CRM/moves-management system and track progress toward goals.
• Collaborate with University Advancement colleagues to execute integrated donor-engagement strategies.
