Job summary

Breakthrough Greater Boston is seeking a Director of Major Gifts to lead a strategic major gifts program, expand funding from diverse donors, and collaborate with leadership and program teams to advance BTGB’s mission in Boston and surrounding communities.

The role focuses on identifying, cultivating, and soliciting major gifts, managing donor relationships, and planning events that deepen donor involvement and support. A strong track record in nonprofit fundraising is essential.

Qualifications

• Significant experience identifying, cultivating and soliciting major gifts.
• Proven success with major gifts fundraising.
• Ability to engage nonprofit board members and senior leaders in creating a culture of philanthropy.
• Strong relationship-building and communication skills.
• Experience with donor databases and fundraising software.

Responsibilities

• Become an expert in Breakthrough Greater Boston’s programming and speak passionately about its impact; partner with Program team to stay current on successes.
• Create and execute a formal major gifts program.
• Manage a portfolio of donors and prospects; work independently and with the team.
• Identify, cultivate and solicit donors for tiers from $1,000 to six-figures.
• Deepen relationships with donors to increase annual giving.
• Support planned giving program development and execution.
• Prepare customized collateral and messaging for donors and prospects.
• Schedule and attend donor meetings; attend Board meetings as required.
• Represent Breakthrough Greater Boston at events and provide briefing materials as needed.
• Create, plan and execute strategic donor events to engage BTGB.
• Lead engagement with Board, Trustees for Life, Educators Circle and other stakeholders.
