Position Overview/Duties

INTRODUCTION: Serves as Maintenance Worker for Operations of USACE, p erforms duties which cover the full range of maintenance tasks requiring the application of journeyman level skills in a wide variety of trades and crafts. Weekend and Holiday work will be required.

Description Of Assignment/Duties

• Troubleshoot, locate, and make basic repairs of electrical wiring, controls, equipment, and fixtures in project intake structures, outlet works, and dams, gauging stations, office and maintenance buildings, recreational facilities, and other associated electrical systems.
• Read and interpret blueprints and technical manuals to effect repairs.
• Perform basic carpentry work associated with maintaining operations buildings and public access areas. Including but not limited to repair and modify framework, forms, doors, and windows.
• Assist in installing, modifying, and repairing existing and new utility, supply, and disposal systems and equipment such as sewage, water and oil distribution systems, water closets, tubs, and showers.
• Use measuring tape, rule, hacksaw, hand and power pipe threader and cutter, packing and caulking iron, and pipe wrenches.
• Operate equipment such as pick-up trucks, dump trucks equipped with a pintle hitch, and heavy equipment trailers with a combined weight over 26,000 pounds.
• Operate tractors equipped with a backhoe to mow fields, transport equipment and materials, plant/harvest crops, move earth, and dig ditches.
• Obtain certification to operate dam to perform flood control duties.
• Incumbent may be required to work alternate weekend and holiday work schedules.

This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD, Section 9905 to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.

Minimum Qualifications Ability to do the work of a(n) Maintenance Worker without more than normal supervision. WG-05 level is defined as experience performing routine semi-skilled maintenance, repair tasks, and basic equipment operation in support of facilities, utility systems, or grounds maintenance under general supervision. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

WG 08 (full performance)

Minimum qualifications: Ability to do the work of a(n) Maintenance Worker without more than normal supervision. WG-08 level is defined as experience performing multi-trade maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair on facility structures and utility systems (electrical, carpentry, plumbing, masonry) combined with the operation and mechanical servicing of heavy motor vehicles, specialized machinery, or water control equipment.

• Competencies needed for the position:
• Physical Effort: Works from ladders, scaffolding, and platforms where areas are hard to reach. Work requires standing, stooping, bending, kneeling and  climbing and may be performed in cramped positions, under equipment, structures, etc. Frequently required to lift and carry parts and items weighing up to 50 pounds.
