• Operate small craft and single or twin screw diesel boats up to 26 feet to make repairs to docks, floats and other facilities on the rivers or streams, transport materials and personnel, and accomplish other work.


• Perform general inspection, repair, and maintenance work utilizing various hand and power tools and small equipment as needed.


• Perform minor electrical maintenance and repairs.


• Perform minor maintenance and repair to motors, engines, belts, hoses, carburetors, linkage, batteries, ignition systems, and other parts of equipment to assure in working order or repair on-site as needed.

Requirements

• Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.


• Must possess and maintain a valid Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL).


• Must be able to obtain and/or maintain a valid state driver's license.


• A pre-employment physical and annual physical thereafter is required.


• Must possess or be able to obtain and maintain certification for any project equipment operated.


• May be required to obtain U.S. Army Corps of Engineers boat operator license.


• Must be able to lift up to 75lbs.


• This is a mandatory drug Testing Designated Position (TDP), in accordance with EP 600-1-300, USACE Drug Testing Procedures for the Army's Drug-Free Federal Workplace (DFW) Program, dated 28 Feb 01.

Qualifications

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element):

Ability to do the work of a(n) Maintenance Mechanic~ without more than normal supervision. - You must have the ability or potential ability to perform the majority of the following maintenance mechanic tasks under normal supervision: painting, carpentry, repairing irrigation systems, plumbing repairs, and welding. You must have the ability with full level skills in operating all associated tools and equipment related to the sub journeyman level skills. You must have the ability to operate and maintain forklifts, backhoes, and tractor-trailers. You must have the ability to perform daily operation checks of this equipment. Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

• PHYSICAL EFFORT




• Work requires moderate to arduous physical effort including lifting up to 50 lbs. frequently and up to 75 lbs. occasionally. Work requires considerable walking, standing, stooping, bending, twisting, pushing, pulling, kneeling, climbing, working on ladders or platforms which require both stretched and cramped positions, and traversing rough terrain. Many activities can cause exertion of the lower back; must maintain good lower back physical condition. Work requires visual acuity, color, and depth perception. Must have good hand-foot-eye coordination.




• WORKING CONDITIONS




• Work is performed inside and outside, with exposure to inclement weather and the usual climate extremes. Subject to vibrations and noisy conditions caused by power tool and equipment operation. There are the common dangers inherent to power tool operation such as cuts and bruises, electrical shock and burns, and the danger of working around mobile equipment. There is exposure to dust, dirt, paint fumes, solvents, pesticides, raw sewage and obnoxious smells, as well as insect bites and bee stings. Aboard vessels there is danger of slipping on wet surfaces or falling into swift water. Must wear appropriate safety and protective gear such as earplugs, safety glasses, life jacket, hard hat, respirator, etc. as required. Incumbent is required to travel to numerous remote sites to perform work, with extended work occasionally requiring TDY.
