Job summary

The Osborne Association in New York City is seeking a temporary full-time Maintenance Worker to join our Facilities team at the Bronx office. The role includes custodial duties to keep the facility clean and safe and basic maintenance tasks as needed.

The successful candidate will have a high school diploma, a NYS driver\'s license, and be able to lift up to 50 lbs. Training will be provided; 35-hour work week; position up to six months, with potential extension.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Certificate in building trades or related field is a plus.
  • Valid New York State driver’s license preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Learn a trauma-informed, client-centered approach using an anti-oppressive lens.
  • Clean all facility areas (floors, walls, kitchens, bathrooms, common spaces).
  • Perform general maintenance: change bulbs, detectors.
  • Move and transport furniture and supplies.
  • Assemble and install furniture and equipment.
  • Conduct light construction tasks: painting, drywall, tile work, and fixture installation.
  • Operate building systems such as boilers and fire alarms.
  • Attend trainings and collaborate on-site with coworkers.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

We currently seek a temporary full-time Maintenance Worker to join our Facilities team at our 809 Bronx Office. The Maintenance Worker will perform custodial duties to ensure that the facility is maintained in a clean and safe manner. They will also provide basic maintenance and repair as necessary. The Maintenance Worker will report to the Facilities Manager. This person will be expected to work 35 hours per week. This temporary position is expected to last up to six months; however, the assignment may be extended or end earlier based on departmental needs.

Salary Range: $21.98 - $23.08 per hour

Essential Duties
  • Learn and integrate a trauma-informed, client-centered approach, using an anti-oppressive lens, into your work with clients
  • Cleaning all elements of the facility including floors, walls, kitchens, bathroom, common areas, etc. Handling garbage collection and removal. Thoroughly cleaning residential units and all associated elements such as stoves, refrigerators, painting, plastering, etc. in order to prepare them for incoming clients
  • Performing a variety of general maintenance tasks such as changing light bulbs, changing batteries in smoke and carbon dioxide detectors
  • Moving, loading, unloading, and transporting furniture, equipment, tools, and supplies for use at the facility.
  • Assembling and installing furniture and equipment
  • Performing a variety of light construction duties such as drywall installation and patching, painting, light bulb, and fixture installation, drain and sewer line stoppages, cabinet installation and repair, vinyl and ceramic tile installation, and repair and window air conditioner installation and maintenance. Actions will include the use of power tools (hand drills, saws, etc.) and repetitive motions of drilling, sawing, screwing, ratcheting, etc.
  • Operating basic building systems including boilers and heating systems, fire prevention and alarm systems, etc.
  • Attend assigned training
  • In-person attendance is required to collaborate with co-workers
  • Perform other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent experience
  • Certificate or certification in building trade, maintenance, building systems, or building equipment repair is a plus
  • Valid New York State driver’s license with no suspensions and fewer than 3 points

  • Ability to lift and move up to 50lbs frequently on a daily basis

  • Ability to make good judgment and can quickly make decisions and problem solve
