The Maintenance Division is responsible for supporting maintenance activities to preserve and operate the state highway system. Maintenance workers perform duties related to maintaining the state's roadways and facilities.

This position is eligible for a temporary emergency operations adjustment of $3 to $6 per hour, depending on the area of operation, during winter/emergency activities.

MoDOT will hire candidates at entry-level, intermediate, or senior level based on skills and experience. If hired as an entry-level or intermediate Maintenance Worker, this position offers a CAREER-LADDER opportunity for advancement without a competitive interview process. As you gain skills and experience, you can be promoted to higher levels.

Work Schedule: 6:30 a.m. - 2:30 p.m.

Qualifications:

• High School Diploma or GED/HiSET
• Valid Driver's License
• Pass the written portion of the CDL exam before hire. Within 60 days, pass the driving portion with tanker endorsement, no air brake restrictions (Class B), and interstate status (EI or NI).
• Complete a medical-physical exam including drug test and work simulation.
• Complete a national background check.

Special Working Conditions:

• Requires physical stamina for manual material handling, tool operation, and flagging.
• Outdoor work with exposure to hazards, heavy traffic, equipment, machinery, and chemicals.
• Overtime and nighttime work may be required.
• Vehicle operation for snow plowing and ice control.

Responsibilities:

• Maintain highways: filling joints/cracks, pothole patching, traffic flagging, signage, hauling materials, clearing brush, trash removal, ditch cleaning.
• Maintain facilities: sign and guardrail repair, cleaning, painting, equipment servicing.
• Operate vehicles: transport, snow plowing, mowing, use auger/trencher/backhoe/forklift/trucks.
• Potential bridge repair and sign installation/inspection.
