Job summary

Missouri Department of Natural Resources seeks a skilled maintenance worker for Bothwell Lodge SHS in Sedalia, MO. The role covers building and grounds upkeep, electrical, plumbing, carpentry, and equipment operation. Shift typically Monday–Friday, with occasional seasonal variations.

The successful candidate will have 4–6 years of on-the-job training in related trades and be able to obtain required licenses within six months. Strong detail and safety culture are essential.

Qualifications

  • Four to six years of on-the-job training in building, electrical, plumbing, or mechanical trades.
  • Post-secondary education is not required for consideration.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain, repair, and supervise state buildings and facilities across a range of trades.
  • Perform routine park and site maintenance including groundskeeping and cleanings.
  • Operate and maintain mowers, tractors, and other grounds equipment.
  • Record timekeeping, assist visitors and prepare routine reports.
  • May oversee a maintenance crew and ensure safety and compliance.

This position is located at Bothwell Lodge State Historic Site, 19349 Bothwell State Park Road, Sedalia, MO. This position typically works Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. with a 30-minute lunch break. Shifts may vary occasionally with the time of year and to meet the needs of the facility.

  • Responsible for performing a variety of skilled work in maintenance, natural resource stewardship, and repair or alteration of state buildings and facilities.
  • Work in a variety of trade areas such as historic building maintenance, woodworking, gardening, landscaping, pruning, electrical, plumbing, carpentry, concrete and masonry, painting, plastering, and mechanical repair in settings such as facilities and grounds.
  • Routine cleaning of park buildings, restrooms, and park/historic site grounds.
  • Operate and maintain lawn mowers, tractors, skid loader, trucks, chainsaws, leaf blowers, and similar mechanical equipment.
  • Basic computer and customer service skills for timekeeping, assisting visitors, and regular report tracking.
  • Ability to safely operate and maintain chainsaws to include experience felling trees.
  • Assist with prescribed burns, wildfire suppression, herbicide application, and other natural or cultural activities as directed with the completion of Level 1 Prescribed Fire training.
  • Maintain a valid vehicle operator’s license to operate and maintain licensed vehicles, as well as tractors, mowers, skid steer, and other grounds related equipment.
  • May also oversee a crew engaged in maintenance tasks.
  • This position may be required to obtain and maintain a water/wastewater certification(s), commercial operator’s license (CDL), and/or other required licenses/certifications.If required, and if you do not currently possess this license/certification, you will be given six months to obtain necessary license/certification.

  • Electrical: Knowledge of electrical equipment, components, instruments, and systems, including their design, installation, testing, uses, repair, or maintenance.
  • Plumbing and Pipefitting: Knowledge of materials, methods, and the appropriate tools to install, maintain, or repair pipelines, pipe systems, and fixtures, including water, air, steam, gas, chemicals, or sewage.
Equivalent to those typically gained by:
  • Four to six years of on-the-job training in building, electrical, plumbing, or mechanical trades. (Additional education or experience may substitute for the required education or experience)
