Job summary

The City of Irving is seeking a maintenance worker to support installation and removal of roadway markings and traffic signs. Duties include operating various tools and equipment, maintaining and repairing traffic devices, and clearing vegetation obstructions from sight lines. A valid Texas driver’s license and basic computer skills are required.

Normal hours are 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on a 9/80 schedule, with on-call, evening, weekend and holiday hours sometimes required.

Responsibilities

• Assist with installation and removal of roadway pavement markings using thermoplastic machine, hand-propelled paint striper, grinder and water-jet blasting equipment.
• Assist with installation, maintenance and repair of traffic signs, street markings, and roadway traffic control devices.
• Place traffic cones and barricades; clean and service tools, machinery, equipment and vehicles.
• Clear visual obstructions from traffic control devices, intersections and sight lines.
• Operate equipment such as jackhammer, hydraulic tool system, cutting torch, chain saw and miscellaneous hand tools.

Duties, dependent upon assignment, may include assisting with installation and removal of roadway pavement markings using thermoplastic machine, hand-propelled paint striper, grinder and water-jet blasting equipment; and/or performing installation, maintenance and repair of various traffic signs, street markings, and other roadway traffic control devices; placing traffic cones and barricades; and cleaning and servicing tools, machinery, equipment and vehicles. Duties may also include clearing visual obstructions (primarily vegetation) from traffic control devices, intersections and sight lines. Duties will require operating various types of equipment, e.g. jackhammer, hydraulic tool system, cutting torch, chain saw and assorted hand tools. Must be able to read and write at a level necessary for successful job performance; have basic computer skills; and have a valid Texas driver’s license. Six months of related experience is required. Normal hours are 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on a 9/80 schedule, though schedule will include some on-call duty, responding to after-hours trouble calls. Evening, weekend and holiday hours are sometimes required.

PAY GRADE GG10 / FULL PAY RANGE $17.86 - $25.18 PER HOUR
