*** Starting pay per hour for Maintenance Worker is $18.40 to $22.08, depending on experience.
*** Additional $1.25 for ability to demonstrate the operation of light equipment, knowledge of MUTCD, and two years of field experience.
*** Additional $1.25 for CDL.
*** Up to an additional $0.50 for TDA.
Under general supervision, performs unskilled general labor in the maintenance of city streets, drainage systems, and infrastructure for the Public Works Department; operates hand and power tools and equipment in accordance with all safety regulations and procedures.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
- Performs general manual labor tasks to maintain streets, drainage systems, and infrastructure as assigned; duties may vary according to job assignment and individual skills.
- Performs maintenance and repairs within scope of authority, following all safety regulations; reports hazards, equipment issues, and emergencies.
- Operates and maintains various tools and equipment; assists with maintenance of tools and equipment.
- Assists in repairing and maintaining drainage systems and roadways; inspects storm drains, drainage ditches, manhole covers; clears trash, brush, weeds, and debris; digs and fills holes; maintains slopes; clears and repairs roadways and adjoining areas.
- Learns various work tasks and procedures related to street, roadway, and infrastructure maintenance.
- Follows safety rules to minimize accident risks.
- Responds to emergency cleaning and maintenance requests as directed.
- Cross-trains in all maintenance tasks.
- Responds outside normal hours for events, disasters, emergencies, or critical incidents as determined by the city.
- Maintains professionalism, values, and city goals by following rules and regulations; upholds accountability and public trust.
- Cooperates professionally with co-workers to accomplish tasks efficiently.
- Maintains regular, predictable attendance; attendance is essential for continued employment.
- Performs other duties as assigned or required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education and Experience:
High school diploma or GED equivalent; AND one year of maintenance work experience.
Required Licenses or Certifications:
- Must possess a valid Texas Driver’s License.
Required Knowledge of:
- City policies and procedures.
- Occupational hazards and safety precautions.
- Customer service standards and protocols.
Required Skills in:
- Operating and maintaining tools and equipment safely and according to procedures.
- Performing heavy manual labor, including lifting and carrying up to 80 pounds.
- Following verbal and written instructions closely.
- Establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships.
Physical Demands / Work Environment:
- Work is performed indoors and outdoors at various city sites; requires moderate physical effort; ability to lift and carry up to 80 pounds.
